Davis Fund for Lowville"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Non-profit organizations serving residents in the village and town of Lowville are encouraged to apply through the George R. Davis Fund for Lowville at the Northern New York Community Foundation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Mr. Davis was a longtime Lowville resident and served as Lewis County judge for more than 20 years. He established this permanent charitable fund for the community following his death in 2010. This year, up to $10,000 is available in grant funding through this community fund to support programs, projects and initiatives benefiting the quality of life in Lowville.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">In 2017, seven projects were awarded grant funding totaling $10,000. The recipients were:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Lowville Food Pantry &#8211; $3,400 <\/b>to assist with a feasibility study and explore a capital project as a potential future location for the pantry.<\/span><span class=\"s3\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Lewis County Search &amp; Rescue &#8211; $1,545 <\/b>for the purchase of new radio equipment to enhance communication during daily calls.<\/span><span class=\"s3\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Mountain View Prevention Services, Inc. &#8211; $1,250 <\/b>to assist with the promotion of a community event centered on raising awareness and reducing the stigma of drug-related deaths and addiction.<\/span><span class=\"s3\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Boys Scouts of America, Inc. (Lowville Troop #162) &#8211; $1,250 <\/b>to increase access and opportunities for disadvantaged youth to participate in troop activities during the 2018 summer camp experience.<\/span><span class=\"s3\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>U.S. Bowling Congress, Inc. (Lowville Youth Bowling League &#8211; $1,055 <\/b>to provide more opportunities for youth and individuals with disabilities to participate in local bowling events and tournaments.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Future Farmers of America (Lowville chapter) &#8211; $1,000<\/b> in support of a community \u201cMeals for Hope\u201d initiative to assist area families in need.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Cornell Cooperative Extension of Lewis County &#8211; $500<\/b> to support gardening workshops for youth.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">To learn more about the George R. The deadline to submit a proposal for consideration is April 20, 2018.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Northern New York Community Foundation makes grants to support the work of non-profit organizations and provides scholarships to individuals in Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence counties. The Foundation has been built and added to from gifts (both while living and through their legacy plans) by individuals and organizations committed to meeting the changing needs of Northern New York, as well as supporting specific charitable interests and passions.
