Can visits with this year&#8217;s Jefferson-Can Scholarship recipients during a fall reception at Jefferson Community College.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><em>626 Students Assisted Since 2007, Totaling $1.2 Million<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong>The Northern New York Community Foundation announces the 2018-19 members of the Jefferson-Can Community Scholars Program.\u00a0 The scholarship, administered by the Northern New York Community Foundation, in collaboration Jefferson Community College (JCC) alumnus Stephen H. Can, and the JCC Foundation, provides scholarships to students from Jefferson and Lewis counties who graduate in the top 15 percent of their class. This year, fifty- one students will receive an award. Mr. Can had the opportunity to visit with this year\u2019s recipients during a recent visit to Watertown. Since its inception in 2007, the Jeff-Can Community Scholars program has provided scholarships totaling approximately $1.2 million, supporting 626 students.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Stephen H. Can, of New Hope, Pennsylvania, is Senior Managing Director and Co-head of Strategic Partners, Blackstone\u2019s $31 billion committed capital secondary and advisory private funds business. Mr. Can is the founding member of Strategic Partners, and Chairman of the Strategic Partners Investment Committees. Mr. Can received an A.S. in Business Administration from JCC in 1980, a B.A. magna cum laude in Accounting from SUNY Plattsburgh in 1982 and an M.S. in Finance from the Krannert Business School at Purdue University in 1984 where he was named outstanding graduate instructor. Mr. Can subsequently earned C.P.A., C.M.A., and C.F.M. designations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt has been an honor to partner with Mr. Can and the JCC Foundation to provide this unique opportunity for students in Jefferson and Lewis counties. We believe there are many benefits to the students, JCC and the community to make this type of investment locally, none of which would be possible without Mr. Can\u2019s generous commitment to the future of our community, our country and the world, \u201d said Rande S.
