{"id":1745,"date":"2019-02-27T15:38:51","date_gmt":"2019-02-27T15:38:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nnycf.org\/new\/?p=1745"},"modified":"2019-02-27T15:39:50","modified_gmt":"2019-02-27T15:39:50","slug":"funding-available-to-three-communities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nnycf.org\/new\/funding-available-to-three-communities\/","title":{"rendered":"Up to $30,000 in Funding Available to Nonprofits in Three Communities"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s2\"><i>Kenneth V. and Jeannette Remp Sawyer Community Fund Seeks Grant Proposals<\/i><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\"><b>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/b>Nonprofit organizations that serve residents of Boonville, Constableville and Westernville are encouraged to apply for 2019 grant funding through the Kenneth V. and Jeannette Remp Sawyer Community Fund at the Northern New York Community Foundation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\"><b><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><\/b>The fund was established in 2018 to support programs, projects and initiatives that broadly impact the quality of life in Boonville, Constableville and Westernville. The Northern New York Community Foundation administers this permanent, charitable legacy fund that makes grant awards annually. This year, up to $30,000 in funding is available.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\"><b><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><\/b>In 2018, 12 projects were awarded grant funding totaling $30,000. The recipients were:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\"><b><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>Boonville Cemetery Association \u2014 <\/b>$6,000 to digitize and preserve records to maintain efficiency.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\"><b><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>Constableville Volunteer Fire Company \u2014<\/b> $4,400 to purchase two new sets of turnout gear.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\"><b><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>Erwin Library and Institute \u2014<\/b> $3,025 to support six community performances.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\"><b><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>Constableville Library Association \u2014<\/b> $3,000 to purchase equipment to create a \u201cliteracy station.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\"><b><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>Boonville Youth Athletic Association \u2014<\/b> $2,500 to support development of a playground space.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\"><b><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><\/b><\/span><b>Boonville Area Chamber of Commerce \u2014 <\/b>$2,500 to help acquire three cameras to stream community <span class=\"s3\">events and enhance security.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\"><b><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><\/b><\/span><b>Constableville for Tomorrow \u2014<\/b> $2,000 to help construct a curtain system for a community pavilion.<\/li>\n<li class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\"><b><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>Boonville Black River Canal Museum \u2014 <\/b>$1,925 to help build a youth volunteer base.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\"><b><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>Constable Hall Association \u2014 <\/b>$1,600 to help fund computer and technology upgrades.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\"><b><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><\/b><\/span><b>Boonville Search and Rescue \u2014 <\/b>$1,050 to purchase three GPS devices for searches and guided tours.<\/li>\n<li class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\"><b><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>North Country Proudly Honors, Inc. \u2014<\/b> $1,000 to assist with a community reception and promotion honoring veterans.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><b>Adirondack Community Chorus \u2014<\/b> $1,000 to purchase music for community performances.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>The deadline to submit a proposal for consideration is <b>Friday. April 19, 2019<\/b>. Grant awards will be\u00a0<\/span>announced following the Community Foundation\u2019s quarterly board meeting in June. Mr. Sawyer was a Boonville native, served in the United States Army, and enjoyed a career at Layng Furniture Company and as a supervisor at Boonville\u2019s Erwin Park. Most notably, he was a talented musician. He played tenor saxophone in his high school band and clarinet with the Boonville Village Band. He frequently played with three separate drum and bugle corps in Boonville and Rome. Mr. Sawyer died in 2008.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>Mrs. Sawyer completed a successful career of more than 45 years at Rome Savings Bank and was an avid follower of the stock market. She also served on the finance committee of Boonville United Methodist Church. She assisted organizations such as the Daughters of the American Revolution, Dodge Pratt Northam Art and Community Center, the Erwin Library, and the Boonville Cemetery. Mrs. Sawyer died in 2015.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>In 2017, the Kenneth V. Sawyer and Jeannette Remp Sawyer Scholarship Fund was established through the Northern New York Community Foundation to benefit Adirondack Central School graduates.
