{"id":3456,"date":"2020-09-21T13:40:51","date_gmt":"2020-09-21T13:40:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nnycf.org\/new\/?p=3456"},"modified":"2020-09-22T16:18:11","modified_gmt":"2020-09-22T16:18:11","slug":"massena-meals-on-wheels","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nnycf.org\/new\/massena-meals-on-wheels\/","title":{"rendered":"Community Foundation Announces Challenge Grant to Support Massena Meals on Wheels Event"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><b>MASSENA \u2014 <\/b><span class=\"s2\">The Northern New York Community Foundation is pleased to announce a challenge grant to support <b>Massena Meals on Wheels<\/b> all-day \u201c$tock the Pot\u201d Roadside Collection event, set for this <b>Friday, Sept. 25<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>The Community Foundation will match all donations made between 7 a.m. and noon, up to $2,500. Massena Meals on Wheels volunteers will take to the streets with collection pots during a \u201csocially distanced\u201d event from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. The roadside collection will be held in front of the <b>Massena Meals on Wheels <\/b>building, <b>70 East Hatfield St.<\/b>, across from the Massena Electric Department. Volunteers will be standing in the center of the road taking collections from passers-by from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. They\u2019ll accept spare change, dollars, checks and debit or credit cards.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>\u201cMeals on Wheels and its volunteers provide such a critical service to Massena-area residents,\u201d said Rande Richardson, Community Foundation executive director. \u201cWe must work together to help ensure the needs are met, especially during a time when the challenges are the greatest.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>The all-day fundraiser is part of the organization\u2019s \u201cMeals on Wheels Day\u201d that aims to build support for the community-based program and help stock critical food supplies that are distributed to the hundreds of people they serve.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>The Community Foundation challenge grant is awarded through its COVID-19 Community Support Fund, which was established in the early days of the public health crisis to address essential needs across the region and help food pantries, non-government school-based programs, and others that serve our most vulnerable residents.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>Nearly $50,000 has been awarded since March to support 67 organizations across Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence counties and strengthen critical resources.
