{"id":3524,"date":"2020-10-27T18:33:57","date_gmt":"2020-10-27T18:33:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nnycf.org\/new\/?p=3524"},"modified":"2020-12-18T18:36:16","modified_gmt":"2020-12-18T18:36:16","slug":"lead-holiday-giving","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nnycf.org\/new\/lead-holiday-giving\/","title":{"rendered":"LEAD Council Launches Holiday Giving Fund, $5,000 Matching Challenge"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">Young Professionals Building Charitable Support for Three Community Initiatives<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><b>WATERTOWN \u2014<\/b> <span class=\"s1\">The <b>LEAD Council of the Northern New York Community Foundation<\/b> is pleased to announce support for three 2020 holiday programs that impact residents of Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence counties.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>The advisory committee of young professionals has created the <b>LEAD Holiday Giving Fund <\/b>at the Community Foundation and is introducing a $5,000 matching challenge to build charitable support.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>LEAD will match each contribution made to the holiday fund, dollar-for-dollar, up to $5,000. The challenge is open now and runs through December. Total gifts received and matched by LEAD will be evenly distributed to the following community initiatives and nonprofit partner organizations:<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p4\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><b>Christmas Crusade for Kids \u2014 <\/b>Led by Tunes 92.5 FM \/ Intrepid Broadcasting, Watertown, this initiative provides holiday gifts to children and families across Northern New York. More than 900 families <span class=\"s3\">received support last year. The effort is a collaboration with <b>Community Action Planning Council of Jefferson County<\/b><\/span>, Watertown Urban Mission, and the Salvation Army.<\/li>\n<li class=\"p4\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><b>Christmas Sharing Holiday Assistance \u2014<\/b> This program of the <b>Lowville Food Pantry<\/b> distributes gifts, toys, food boxes and more to children, families and senior citizens in need across Lewis County.<\/li>\n<li class=\"p4\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><b>Potsdam Holiday Fund \u2014<\/b> This nonprofit provides annual support to St. Lawrence County individuals and families in need with gifts, food baskets, and winter clothing. Funding from this matching challenge will bolster the organization\u2019s voucher program this year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>With ongoing challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic, LEAD was compelled to proactively assist in this endeavor by providing additional support to help vulnerable individuals, children and families through these well-established initiatives.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3540 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/nnycf.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/LEAD_Holiday_Giving_Fund_3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"456\" height=\"330\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>\u201cThis year, more than ever, these projects need our support to ensure tri-county adults and children have gifts, good meals, and winter clothing this holiday season,\u201d said Jonathan Cole, LEAD member and mayor of the Village of Antwerp. \u201cWith the pandemic, we are seeing high rates of unemployment in our own backyard. No parent should ever have to choose between providing for their families and being able to provide food and Christmas gifts to their children. Gifts to the LEAD Holiday Giving Fund help support three local initiatives that positively impact the lives of thousands of children and families.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>To support LEAD\u2019s effort, make gifts to: <b>Northern New York Community Foundation, 131 Washington Street, Watertown, New York 13601<\/b>, or online at <a href=\"https:\/\/nnycf.org\/new\"><b>nnycf.org<\/b><\/a>.
