{"id":3559,"date":"2020-11-06T17:14:06","date_gmt":"2020-11-06T17:14:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nnycf.org\/new\/?p=3559"},"modified":"2021-11-10T19:40:54","modified_gmt":"2021-11-10T19:40:54","slug":"operation-snowstorm-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nnycf.org\/new\/operation-snowstorm-2020\/","title":{"rendered":"Foundation Extends Partnership to Provide Warmth for Students"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">\u2018Operation Snowstorm\u2019 to Help Children in Two Lewis County School Districts<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><b>WATERTOWN \u2014<\/b> <span class=\"s1\">A Northern New York Community Foundation partnership that helps provide winter clothing to children at two Lewis County schools will continue to make a big difference this year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>The collaboration with the Dyson Foundation called \u201cOperation Snowstorm\u201d supplies students at <b>Lowville Academy and Central School<\/b> and <b>Beaver River Central School<\/b> with coats, hats, scarves, mittens, boots, and other necessary winter garments. This year, the two schools will evenly share an $11,500 grant to support Lewis County youth and families.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>\u201cWith students and families already under heightened pressure, this program has even greater importance this year,\u201d Community Foundation Executive Director Rande Richardson said. \u201cThis is exactly the type of support and positivity needed right now as we head toward winter.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>The Community Foundation works with staff at both schools to identify those students with the greatest need. Vouchers are provided to qualifying students and winter clothing items are purchased at the Lowville Farmers Co-Op, which has generously provided a discount to Operation Snowstorm shoppers.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-3558 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/nnycf.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Operation_Snowstorm_2020-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"420\" height=\"280\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nnycf.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Operation_Snowstorm_2020-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/nnycf.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Operation_Snowstorm_2020-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/nnycf.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Operation_Snowstorm_2020-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/nnycf.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Operation_Snowstorm_2020-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/nnycf.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Operation_Snowstorm_2020-2048x1365.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 420px) 100vw, 420px\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>Operation Snowstorm is in its 14th year at Lowville Academy and its ninth year at Beaver River Schools. The program helps nearly 200 Lewis County students each year. Since the partnership began in 2007, more than $120,000 has been provided to support the effort to provide winter attire to those who need it most.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>\u201cWe are privileged to partner with the Community Foundation to provide warm winter clothing for many of the most vulnerable members of our school community,\u201d Lowville Academy and Central School Superintendent Rebecca Dunckel-King said. \u201cWe are truly grateful to be part of a project that has such a positive and immediate impact on those involved.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>The Community Foundation\u2019s work to \u201cimprove and enrich the quality of life for all,\u201d means many Lowville elementary, middle, and high school students will receive warm clothing that will keep them safe and healthy during the coming north country winter season, Mrs. Dunckel-King added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>Lowville families in need of support through Operation Snowstorm should contact <b>Becky Tiffany<\/b> at Lowville Academy, <b>315-376-9010<\/b>.
