{"id":3975,"date":"2021-04-29T19:21:49","date_gmt":"2021-04-29T19:21:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nnycf.org\/new\/?p=3975"},"modified":"2021-04-29T19:23:07","modified_gmt":"2021-04-29T19:23:07","slug":"scholarship-deadlines-near","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nnycf.org\/new\/scholarship-deadlines-near\/","title":{"rendered":"Deadlines Fast Approaching for Several Community Foundation Scholarships"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>Many Opportunities for Post-Secondary Educational Support Still Open to Tri-County Students<\/i><\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><b>WATERTOWN \u2014<\/b> The deadline for several scholarship opportunities at the Northern New York Community Foundation for graduating seniors and nontraditional students is fast approaching for Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence county students.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>\u201cThere are some unique opportunities for students across the tri-county area to receive help in their educational pursuits,\u201d said Rande Richardson, Community Foundation executive director. \u201cThese scholarships have special meaning for the individuals and organizations that created them, and we are hoping for a strong and diverse pool of applicants this year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>Members of the graduating class of 2021 who plan to enroll in post-secondary programs this fall must complete applications through the Community Foundation\u2019s online scholarship portal by this <b>Saturday, May 1<\/b>, for the following scholarships:<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-2533\" src=\"https:\/\/nnycf.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/HSgraad-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nnycf.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/HSgraad-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/nnycf.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/HSgraad-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/nnycf.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/HSgraad-1024x683.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><b>George C. Boldt Scholarship \u2014 <\/b>Established by his great-grandson, the scholarship honors the life and legacy of George C. Boldt Sr., a noted hotelier and philanthropist who built the famed Boldt Castle on Heart Island in the St. Lawrence River. It is awarded to three Jefferson County high school seniors who plan first-time enrollment in the fall as full-time undergraduate freshman students.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><b>Michelle D. Salisbury Memorial Scholarship \u2014<\/b> Northern Credit Union, in partnership with the Northern New York Community Foundation, awards the Michelle D. Salisbury Memorial Scholarship upon high school graduation to one student in each of the school districts in Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence counties as well as the Pulaski and Sandy Creek school districts. The scholarship is in memory of Michelle D. Salisbury, a Northern Credit Union team member and Jefferson County native who passed away in 2009.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><b>North Side Legacy Fund Scholarship \u2014 <\/b>The North Side Legacy Fund was established in 2019 as a permanent fund of the Northern New York Community Foundation to forever honor and perpetuate the history and heritage of the North Side Improvement League. Scholarships are awarded to high school seniors who are City of Watertown residents, as well as students with family ties to the league, and who plan first-time enrollment in the fall as full-time undergraduate freshman students. Students who plan to attend post-secondary technical, trade or vocational school are also eligible and encouraged to apply.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>Members of the <b>Alexandria<\/b>, <b>LaFargeville<\/b>, <b>Lyme<\/b>, and <b>Thousand Islands Central School Districts<\/b> class of 2021 who plan to enroll in post-secondary programs this fall must complete applications through the Community Foundation\u2019s online scholarship portal by <b>Friday, May 7<\/b>, for the following awards:<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><b>Thousand Islands Foundation Scholarships \u2014<\/b> A permanent Community Foundation affiliate, the Thousand Islands Foundation awards eight named scholarships, including: the <b>Clayton Volunteer Fire Department Scholarship<\/b>; <b>Grindstone Island Mary Lou Rusho Memorial Scholarship<\/b>; <b>Grindstone Island Research &amp; Heritage Center Scholarship<\/b>; the <b>Hazel Northrup Hyde Family Scholarship<\/b>; the <b>Lechler Award Scholarship<\/b>; the <b>Margaret Maser Scholarship<\/b>; the <b>Ruth &amp; Robert Phillips Scholarship<\/b>; and the <b>Elizabeth \u201cBetty\u201d Streets Scholarship<\/b>. Students may also receive support from the Thousand Islands Foundation General Fund, which awards scholarships to graduating seniors from Alexandria, LaFargeville, Lyme, and Thousand Islands Central School Districts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><b>Evergreen STEM Scholarship \u2014<\/b> Members of the class of 2022 \u2014 current high school juniors \u2014 who live in St. Lawrence County and plan to study and work in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics fields must complete applications through the Community Foundation\u2019s online scholarship portal by <b>Tuesday, June 1<\/b>, for the Evergreen STEM Scholarship. Ten scholarship recipients will be named this summer and presented with the scholarships upon graduation from high school as they head to college.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><b>Rebecca Rhodes Memorial Scholarship \u2014 <\/b>Established by her family, this scholarship honors the life and memory of Rebecca A.G. Rhodes, a gifted geology student who, at the time of her passing, was graduating with an advanced degree in geological engineering. Jefferson County undergraduate students pursuing studies in the STEM sciences, especially geology, are encouraged to apply through the Community Foundation\u2019s online scholarship portal by <b>Tuesday, June 1<\/b>.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><b>Vici and Steve Diehl Foundation Graduate Scholarships \u2014<\/b> This Community Foundation affiliate fund offers scholarships to students pursuing graduate degrees in Environmental Studies or Music. Applicants must have graduated from a high school in Jefferson, Lewis, or St. Lawrence county and should apply through the Community Foundation\u2019s online scholarship portal by <b>Tuesday, June 1<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><b>Nontraditional Student Scholarship \u2014 <\/b>Students from Jefferson, Lewis, or St. Lawrence counties who have had a break in their post-secondary education and are returning to a two- or four-year college or trade, vocational, or technical school, either full or part time, may apply through the Community Foundation\u2019s online scholarship portal by <b>Tuesday, June 1<\/b>.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>Students can now apply online using the same 2021-22 Scholarship Application for several scholarships that previously required unique applications. The application portal may be accessed from the Foundation\u2019s home page at <a href=\"https:\/\/nnycf.org\/new\"><b>nnycf.org<\/b><\/a> by clicking on the scholarship button, which redirects users to the application portal. Students should thoroughly read all application instructions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>Since 1980, the Community Foundation has provided more than $19 million in scholarship awards to students who live in the tri-county region.
