{"id":4322,"date":"2021-11-01T18:13:58","date_gmt":"2021-11-01T18:13:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nnycf.org\/new\/?p=4322"},"modified":"2021-11-01T21:23:04","modified_gmt":"2021-11-01T21:23:04","slug":"lead-holiday-challenge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nnycf.org\/new\/lead-holiday-challenge\/","title":{"rendered":"LEAD Council kicks off holiday season philanthropy challenge"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>Double your gift <\/i><\/span><span class=\"s1\"><i>to the LEAD Holiday Giving Fund <\/i><\/span><span class=\"s1\"><i>through a $5,000 matching challenge\u00a0<\/i><\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><b>WATERTOWN \u2014<\/b><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The <b>LEAD Council of the Northern New York Community Foundation<\/b> is working to help bring warmth to vulnerable children and families in need this holiday season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>The advisory committee of young professionals is launching its year-end LEAD Philanthropy Challenge to support the tri-county region. To begin, the Council is restarting its LEAD Holiday Giving Fund at the Foundation and providing a $5,000 matching challenge. Each gift to the LEAD Holiday Giving Fund at the Community Foundation will be matched, dollar-for-dollar, up to $5,000.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-3540\" src=\"https:\/\/nnycf.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/LEAD_Holiday_Giving_Fund_3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1363\" height=\"987\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>Total gifts contributed to the LEAD Holiday Giving Fund will be evenly distributed to the following community initiatives and nonprofit partner organizations:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p3\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><b>Christmas Crusade for Kids \u2014<\/b> Led by Tunes 92.5\/104.5 FM Intrepid Broadcasting, Watertown, this initiative provides holiday gifts to children and families across Northern New York. More than 1,200 families received support last year. The effort is a collaboration with the <b>Community Action Planning Council of Jefferson County<\/b>, <b>Watertown Urban Mission<\/b>, and the <b>Salvation Army Watertown Corps<\/b>.<\/li>\n<li class=\"p3\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><b>Christmas Sharing Holiday Assistance \u2014<\/b> This program of the <b>Lowville Food Pantry<\/b> distributes gifts, toys, food boxes, and more to children, families, and seniors in need across Lewis County.<\/li>\n<li class=\"p3\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><b>Potsdam Holiday Fund \u2014<\/b> This nonprofit provides annual support to St. Lawrence County individuals and families in need with gifts, food baskets, and winter clothing. Funding from this matching challenge will strengthen the organization\u2019s voucher program this year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>\u201cThis challenge is something our members look forward to every year,\u201d said <b>Erin Simser<\/b>, LEAD Council chair. \u201cAs we get closer to the holiday season, it brings great joy to our members to see the community come together to support those in need.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>LEAD members will also collect new toys, which will be donated to help brighten the holidays for local children in need. The Council\u2019s challenge starts <b>November 1<\/b>, and runs through <b>December 1<\/b>. Last year, the Council raised $6,000 to support local holiday initiatives and distributed hundreds more in material donations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>\u201cWe always strive to make a positive impact on our communities,\u201d said Jennifer Voss, LEAD Council executive committee member. \u201cBeing able to provide toys to children who may not otherwise receive any at Christmas fills our buckets, and we encourage community members to join us and donate new toys that we will distribute across the North Country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>The LEAD Council is comprised of 24 young professionals who live and work in Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence counties. The Council is empowered to develop creative initiatives that directly benefit the community and to award strategic grants to tri-county nonprofit organizations whose work enhances the quality of life in the region.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>To support LEAD\u2019s effort, make gifts to: <b>Northern New York Community Foundation, 131 Washington Street, Watertown, New York 13601<\/b>, or online at <a href=\"https:\/\/nnycf.org\/new\"><b>nnycf.org<\/b><\/a>.
