{"id":4396,"date":"2021-12-08T21:09:35","date_gmt":"2021-12-08T21:09:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nnycf.org\/new\/?p=4396"},"modified":"2021-12-08T21:09:41","modified_gmt":"2021-12-08T21:09:41","slug":"operation-snowstorm-extended","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nnycf.org\/new\/operation-snowstorm-extended\/","title":{"rendered":"$11,500 Funding Partnership Provides Needed Winter Clothing for Students"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s2\"><i>\u2018Operation Snowstorm\u2019 Helps Children in Two Lewis County School Districts<\/i><\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><b>WATERTOWN \u2014<\/b> A Northern New York Community Foundation partnership that helps provide warm winter clothing to children in two Lewis County schools will continue to make a big difference for another three years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>The collaboration with the Dyson Foundation called \u201cOperation Snowstorm\u201d supplies Lowville Academy and Beaver River students with coats, hats, scarves, mittens, boots, and other necessary winter garments. This fall, and in 2022 and 2023, the two schools will evenly share a grant of $11,500 to support Lewis County youth and families.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>Thanks to a long-standing relationship with the Dyson Foundation, the Community Foundation will help facilitate a meaningful holiday initiative to benefit students in the two school districts.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-4395\" src=\"https:\/\/nnycf.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/OperationSnowstorm_122021-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nnycf.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/OperationSnowstorm_122021-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/nnycf.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/OperationSnowstorm_122021-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/nnycf.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/OperationSnowstorm_122021-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/nnycf.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/OperationSnowstorm_122021-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/nnycf.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/OperationSnowstorm_122021-2048x1365.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>\u201cEspecially now, with continued stresses and pressures on families, this comes at a perfect time to help provide extra support as we head into the holidays and winter months,\u201d Community Foundation Executive Director Rande Richardson said. \u201cWe know from past years that this is a program that goes immediately to work to make a difference locally.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>The Community Foundation works with staff at both schools to identify those students with the greatest need. Vouchers are provided to qualifying students and winter clothing items are purchased at the Lowville Farmers Co-Op, which has generously provided a discount to Operation Snowstorm shoppers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>Operation Snowstorm is now in its 15th year at Lowville Academy and its 10th year at Beaver River. The program helps nearly 200 Lewis County students each year. Since the partnership began in 2007, more than $130,000 has been provided to support the effort to provide winter attire to those who need it most.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>\u201cWe have seen so many of our students\u2019 needs met through the Northern New York Community Foundation collaborating to supply our families with warm winter clothing for what is typically an unforgiving season in the North Country,\u201d Lowville Academy and Central School Superintendent Rebecca Dunckel-King said. \u201cNow, more than ever, our Lowville Academy and Central School families need the support that Operation Snowstorm provides. We are grateful this partnership with the Foundation can help our students stay warm and safe and ready to learn.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>The Community Foundation\u2019s work to \u201cimprove and enrich the quality of life for all,\u201d means many Lowville elementary, middle, and high school students will receive warm clothing that will keep them safe and healthy during the coming north country winter season, Mrs. Dunckel-King added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>\u201cWe are very fortunate at Beaver River to be a part of Operation Snowstorm. This grant allows us to provide students in need with proper clothing for the upcoming winter.
