{"id":6739,"date":"2024-08-30T18:45:12","date_gmt":"2024-08-30T18:45:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nnycf.org\/?p=6739"},"modified":"2024-08-30T18:45:12","modified_gmt":"2024-08-30T18:45:12","slug":"2024-north-side-scholars","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nnycf.org\/new\/2024-north-side-scholars\/","title":{"rendered":"Foundation\u2019s North Side Legacy Fund Supports Two Students with Family Ties to Former League"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 class=\\\"p3\\\"><span class=\\\"s1\\\"><i>$1,000 Awarded to Help Students Pursue Post-Secondary Educational Studies<\/i><\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\\\"p5\\\"><span class=\\\"Apple-converted-space\\\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><b>WATERTOWN \u2014<\/b> The <strong>North Side Legacy Fund<\/strong> of the Northern New York Community Foundation recently presented two members of the Class of 2024 with scholarships totaling $1,000 to support their post-secondary educational pursuits.<\/p>\n<p class=\\\"p5\\\"><span class=\\\"Apple-converted-space\\\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>The North Side Legacy Fund was established in 2019 as a permanent fund of the Northern New York Community Foundation to forever honor and perpetuate the history and heritage of the <strong>North Side Improvement League<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\\\"p5\\\"><span class=\\\"Apple-converted-space\\\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>Graduating high school seniors who live in the City of Watertown as well as students from other areas who have family ties to the League are encouraged to apply.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p class=\\\"p5\\\"><span class=\\\"Apple-converted-space\\\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>This year\u2019s scholarship recipients are Watertown-area residents and students with family ties to the North Side Improvement League who will enroll this fall in a post-secondary educational program. Recipients of this one-year award each received $500 and were selected based on combined test scores, cumulative high school GPA, rank in class, personal data, essay scores, and applicant appraisals.<\/p>\n<p class=\\\"p5\\\"><span class=\\\"Apple-converted-space\\\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>\u201cThe North Side Improvement League has a special history and heritage and these scholarships are a living reminder of its efforts to make lives better and remind us of the importance of civic contributions,\u201d said Rande S. Richardson, Community Foundation executive director. \u201cWe are grateful that the League\u2019s ongoing legacy has a permanent home here and thankful for those who continue to contribute to build the fund.\u201d<\/p>\n<img class=\\\"size-large wp-image-6738\\\" src=\\\"https:\/\/nnycf.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/NNYCF_NorthSideScholars_2_083024-1024x684.jpg\\\" alt=\\\"\\\" width=\\\"1024\\\" height=\\\"684\\\" \/>\n<p class=\\\"p6\\\"><span class=\\\"s2\\\"><b>Class of 2024 North Side Legacy Scholarship recipients<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\\\"p5\\\"><span class=\\\"s3\\\"><span class=\\\"Apple-converted-space\\\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><b>Jensen M. St. Croix<\/b>, Immaculate Heart Central School, Jefferson Community College, allied health and biological sciences; daughter of <b>Amy<\/b> and <b>Jayson St. Croix<\/b>. Jensen plans to continue her education in medical school and aspires to become a neonatal surgeon. Jensen\u2019s family has lived on Watertown\u2019s North Side for several generations. Multiple family members have been members of the North Side Improvement League and involved in League service.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\\\"p5\\\"><span class=\\\"Apple-converted-space\\\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><b>Gage M. Marino<\/b>, Carthage High School, SUNY Oswego, finance and accounting; son of <b>Megan<\/b> and <b>Jaimie Marino<\/b>, Carthage. He aspires to work as an investment advisor. Gage\u2019s grandfather, <b>Michael Dupee<\/b>, was a longtime member of the North Side Improvement League and a former board member.<\/p>\n<p class=\\\"p5\\\"><span class=\\\"Apple-converted-space\\\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>Since it was established, 24 students with family ties to Watertown\u2019s north side and the former North Side Improvement League have been awarded educational support totaling $11,500.<\/p>\n<p class=\\\"p5\\\"><span class=\\\"Apple-converted-space\\\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>Past recipients of the <span class=\\\"s3\\\"><b>Northern New York Community Foundation North Side Legacy Fund Scholarship<\/b><\/span> include, from the <b>Class of 2023: Jack L. Clough<\/b>, Watertown High School; <b>Abigail L. Davis<\/b>, Indian River High School; <b>Aidan D. Linkroum<\/b>, Lyme Central High School; <b>KaiAnna Navarra<\/b>, Watertown High School; <b>Julian D. St. Croix<\/b>, General Brown High School; and <b>Julia M. Valvo<\/b>, General Brown High School. From the <b>Class of 2022: Victoria Ledoux<\/b>, Immaculate Heart Central; <b>Hannah M. Reichard<\/b>, Cicero\/North Syracuse High School; <b>Martin Joseph Hutchins<\/b>, Immaculate Heart Central; and <b>Loise Allen Pador<\/b>, Watertown High School. From the <b>Class of 2021<\/b>: <b>Dawson DeLine<\/b>, Watertown High School; <b>Tadd Ledoux<\/b>, Immaculate Heart Central; <b>Maria Netto<\/b>, Watertown High School, and <b>Madison White<\/b>, Watertown High School. Valvo<\/b>, General Brown Central High School.<\/p>\n<p class=\\\"p5\\\"><span class=\\\"Apple-converted-space\\\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>The North Side Legacy Fund also supports nonprofit organizations that serve Watertown residents.<\/p>\n<p class=\\\"p5\\\"><span class=\\\"Apple-converted-space\\\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>The North Side Improvement League\u2019s rich history and legacy of civic involvement and community betterment that spanned more than a century continues through the North Side Legacy Fund.
