{"id":7147,"date":"2025-01-24T18:38:05","date_gmt":"2025-01-24T18:38:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nnycf.org\/?p=7147"},"modified":"2025-01-24T18:38:05","modified_gmt":"2025-01-24T18:38:05","slug":"scholarship-challenge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nnycf.org\/new\/scholarship-challenge\/","title":{"rendered":"Community Foundation Launches Class of 2025 Scholarship Challenge for Tri-County Schools"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 class=\\\"p3\\\"><span class=\\\"s1\\\"><i>Schools That Increase Student Participation Eligible to Win a Share of $5,000 in Foundation Grant Support<\/i><\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\\\"p5\\\"><span class=\\\"Apple-converted-space\\\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><b>WATERTOWN \u2014 <\/b> The Northern New York Community Foundation is pleased to announce an exciting challenge to inspire greater participation in its scholarship program from the Class of 2025 and give schools a chance to win a share of up to $5,000 in grant support.<\/p>\n<p class=\\\"p5\\\"><span class=\\\"Apple-converted-space\\\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>The Community Foundation\u2019s scholarship program supports graduating seniors pursuing further education \u2014 whether at an accredited college, university, technical, or trade school.<\/p>\n<p class=\\\"p5\\\"><span class=\\\"Apple-converted-space\\\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>The scholarship challenge is open to all schools in <b>Jefferson<\/b>, <b>Lewis<\/b>, and <b>St. Lawrence <\/b>counties.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p class=\\\"p5\\\"><span class=\\\"Apple-converted-space\\\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>There are two ways schools have a chance to win grant support: First, the Foundation will award <b>one $1,000 grant<\/b> to a school in each of the three counties it serves: Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence. To be eligible, schools must achieve <b>at least 25% participation<\/b> from their senior class in submitting scholarship applications by <b>February 21, 2025<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p class=\\\"p5\\\"><span class=\\\"Apple-converted-space\\\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>In addition, the <b>top nine schools<\/b> \u2014 three from each county \u2014 with the highest overall participation rates by the <b>March 15, 2025<\/b>, application deadline will be eligible to win a <b>$2,000 grant<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p class=\\\"p5\\\"><span class=\\\"s2\\\"><span class=\\\"Apple-converted-space\\\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>\u201cWith an increasing number and variety of opportunities available to support students, we hope this incentive <\/span>will help build the widest pool of applicants across our region,\u201d said Rande S. Richardson, Community Foundation executive director. \u201cIf this challenge is successful, it will be a win for all as students will benefit directly, their schools may receive additional funding, and our donors will have the best opportunity provide help in the most meaningful ways.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\\\"p5\\\"><span class=\\\"s2\\\"><span class=\\\"Apple-converted-space\\\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>The schools selected for grant awards will be chosen at random. Awards may be used to support a schoolwide <\/span>initiative or project chosen by the senior class officers at the winning schools.<\/p>\n<p class=\\\"p5\\\"><span class=\\\"s2\\\"><span class=\\\"Apple-converted-space\\\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><\/span>Throughout the challenge, the Community Foundation will report progress at the end of each week on its <span class=\\\"s2\\\">Facebook \u2014 <a href=\\\"http:\/\/Facebook.com\/nnycf\\\"><b>Facebook.com\/nnycf<\/b><\/a> \u2014 and Instagram \u2014 <a href=\\\"http:\/\/Instagram.com\/nnycommunityfoundation\\\"><b>Instagram.com\/nnycommunityfoundation<\/b><\/a> \u2014 channels. <strong><a href=\\\"https:\/\/nnycf.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/2023-24_ScholarshipParticipationRates.pdf\\\">Click here to view a chart<\/a><\/strong> that details tri-county schools\u2019 participation rates from 2023 and 2024.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\\\"p5\\\"><span class=\\\"Apple-converted-space\\\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/span>Tri-county seniors should apply for scholarship support by completing the Community Foundation\u2019s online common application found at <a href=\\\"http:\/\/www.nnycf.org\\\"><b>nnycf.org<\/b><\/a> or <a href=\\\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/nnycf-scholarships\\\"><b>bit.ly\/nnycf-scholarships<\/b><\/a> by <b>Saturday, March 15, 2025<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p><img class=\\\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-7155\\\" src=\\\"https:\/\/nnycf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/NNYCF_ScholarshipChallengeFlyer_012425-791x1024.jpg\\\" alt=\\\"\\\" width=\\\"791\\\" height=\\\"1024\\\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\\\"p5\\\"><span class=\\\"Apple-converted-space\\\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/span>Last year, 19 percent of all high school seniors in Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence counties applied for Community Foundation scholarship support. In Jefferson County, 26 percent of the senior class applied, while Lewis County saw 22 percent of its seniors apply and 10 percent of St. Lawrence County seniors completed a scholarship application.<\/p>\n<p class=\\\"p5\\\"><span class=\\\"Apple-converted-space\\\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/span>In partnership with donors and tri-county school districts, the Community Foundation last year awarded $1.33 million in scholarship support to 583 graduating high school seniors from Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence counties. The average award in 2024 was $2,250 per student.
