{"id":7773,"date":"2025-12-12T00:26:08","date_gmt":"2025-12-12T00:26:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nnycf.org\/?p=7773"},"modified":"2025-12-12T00:26:08","modified_gmt":"2025-12-12T00:26:08","slug":"jeff-can-scholars-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nnycf.org\/new\/jeff-can-scholars-2025\/","title":{"rendered":"2025-2026 Jefferson-Can Community Scholars Recognized During Fall Luncheon"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Reception at Jefferson Community College Held for Recipients<\/h3>\n<p><strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0WATERTOWN \u2014 <\/strong>The 2025-2026 class of 32 <strong>Jefferson-Can Community Scholars<\/strong> was recently honored during a fall reception at Jefferson Community College.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>The Community Foundation administers the Jefferson-Can Community Scholars program in collaboration with <strong>Mr. Stephen H. Can<\/strong> and the <strong>Jefferson Community College Foundation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>The Jefferson-Can Community Scholars Program awards Jefferson and Lewis county high school seniors who are in the top 15 percent of their graduating class a merit-based scholarship to cover tuition for the first year of study at Jefferson Community College. Since its inception in 2007, the Jefferson-Can Community Scholars program has provided scholarships totaling approximately $1.9 million, supporting 856 students.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>\u201cWe are grateful to be able to administer this unique merit-based scholarship program that makes the first year of college tuition free for local students and is an investment in our community college,\u201d said <strong>Rande S. Richardson<\/strong>, Community Foundation executive director. \u201cBecause of this partnership with Mr. and Mrs. Can and the JCC Foundation, more students are considering staying local while meaningfully reducing the cost of the freshman year.\u201d<\/p>\n<img class=\\\"wp-image-7770 \\\" src=\\\"https:\/\/nnycf.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/NNYCF_StephenCan_121125-e1765498855742.jpg\\\" alt=\\\"\\\" width=\\\"135\\\" height=\\\"175\\\" \/>\n<p><strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Mr. Can, New Hope, Pa., is a former executive chairman and founder of Strategic Partners, a Blackstone Group\u2019s $31 billion private equity business, Manhattan. He earned an Associate of Science in business administration from Jefferson Community College in 1980; a Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, in accounting from SUNY Plattsburgh in 1982; and a Master of Science in finance from the Krannert Business School at Purdue University in 1984. He lives in Pennsylvania and Florida with his wife, <strong>Pamela A.
