{"id":9285,"date":"2026-04-08T00:24:24","date_gmt":"2026-04-08T00:24:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nnycf.org\/?p=8283"},"modified":"2026-04-08T00:24:24","modified_gmt":"2026-04-08T00:24:24","slug":"summer-ype-opens","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nnycf.org\/new\/summer-ype-opens\/","title":{"rendered":"New Summer \u2018Youth Philanthropy Experience\u2019 Opens to Jefferson County Rising Ninth-Grade Students"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 class=\\\"p3\\\"><span class=\\\"s1\\\"><i>Program slated for July 27 to 31 at the Community Foundation and Watertown-based nonprofits<\/i><\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\\\"p5\\\"><span class=\\\"s2\\\"><span class=\\\"Apple-converted-space\\\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><b>WATERTOWN \u2014<\/b> The Northern New York Community Foundation is pleased to announce a new summer <b>Youth Philanthropy Experience<\/b>, which is set to take off in July with up to 17 rising freshmen who attend school or reside in Jefferson County. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\\\"p5\\\"><span class=\\\"s2\\\"><span class=\\\"Apple-converted-space\\\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>The new weeklong summer program is a chance for students who are entering ninth grade this fall to learn about philanthropy and their community. Ideal students are committed to the full experience and able to attend all sessions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p class=\\\"p5\\\"><span class=\\\"s2\\\"><span class=\\\"Apple-converted-space\\\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>Applications open <b>Wednesday, April 8<\/b>, and students will be accepted on a rolling basis until the program is full. Applications are available online at <a href=\\\"http:\/\/nnycf.org\/summer-ype\\\"><b>nnycf.org\/new\/summer-ype<\/b><\/a>. Completed applications may be scanned and emailed to Community Foundation Philanthropy Associate <b>Emily Pfeil<\/b> at <a href=\\\"mailto:emily@nnycf.org\\\"><b>emily@nnycf.org<\/b><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\\\"p5\\\"><span class=\\\"s2\\\"><span class=\\\"Apple-converted-space\\\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>\u201cWe are excited to build upon more than a decade of positive youth development and offer younger students a unique summer experience in our community,\u201d Youth Philanthropy Experience advisor <b>Leslie Renzi <\/b>said. \u201cParticipants will gain an incredible insight into the needs of our communities and what makes them thrive.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<img class=\\\"wp-image-8282 size-large\\\" src=\\\"https:\/\/nnycf.org\/new\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/TG_FEA_YPExperience_0326-1024x683.jpg\\\" alt=\\\"\\\" width=\\\"1024\\\" height=\\\"683\\\" \/>\n<p class=\\\"p5\\\"><span class=\\\"s2\\\"><span class=\\\"Apple-converted-space\\\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>During this unique summer experience, students will:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\\\"p5\\\"><span class=\\\"s2\\\">Receive a broad introduction to community philanthropy, grantmaking, and hands-on learning about the vital work and missions of local nonprofits.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\\\"p5\\\">Attend daily three-hour morning sessions from 9 a.m. to noon at the Community Foundation and participating <span class=\\\"s2\\\">Watertown-based nonprofits beginning <b>Monday, July 27<\/b>, and concluding <b>Friday, July 31<\/b>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\\\"p5\\\"><span class=\\\"s2\\\">Be empowered to make a difference in their community through grantmaking and volunteer opportunities.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\\\"s2\\\">Meet local leaders, develop debate and critical thinking skills, and collaborate with peers from other Jefferson County schools.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\\\"p5\\\"><span class=\\\"s2\\\">Be entrusted with grant decisions that will allow them to directly impact the quality of life of the area. Grant awards students will make are not limited to youth programs or youth-related initiatives.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\\\"p5\\\"><span class=\\\"s2\\\">Be mentored by community leaders, Foundation staff, and current and past Youth Philanthropy Council members.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\\\"p5\\\"><span class=\\\"s2\\\"><span class=\\\"Apple-converted-space\\\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>\u201cThis new program reflects the Community Foundation\u2019s commitment to strengthening Northern New York not only through grantmaking, but by investing in the next generation\u2019s understanding of philanthropy and why it matters,\u201d Community Foundation Director of Philanthropy <b>Kraig Everard<\/b> said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\\\"p5\\\"><span class=\\\"s2\\\"><span class=\\\"Apple-converted-space\\\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>Since 2010, the Community Foundation has grown its programs that provide youth leadership opportunities across the region, including the <b>Youth Philanthropy Council<\/b> and <b>Community Spirit Youth Giving Challenge<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\\\"p5\\\"><span class=\\\"s2\\\"><span class=\\\"Apple-converted-space\\\">\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>Applications should be completed solely by the student who is applying.
