From Education to Essential Needs, Grant Awards Seek to Aid Wide Range of Causes
WATERTOWN — The Cary and Janet Brick Riverside Foundation, a Northern New York Community Foundation charitable affiliate, recently awarded grants totaling $15,500 to six Jefferson County nonprofit organizations.
The Cary and Janet Brick Riverside Foundation was established in 2017 and is dedicated to contributing to the quality of life in Northern New York.
“The holiday season is a special time for everyone to share with nonprofit organizations serving the men, women and children of the north country,” Mr. and Mrs. Brick said. “These grants will provide a wide range of services.”
The following organizations will receive grant support:
Hawn Memorial Library, Clayton, $2,500 to expand its children’s department by creating programs “to teach young people that computers are not just for playing games but can create exciting learning experiences to help them prepare their secondary school studies.”
Clayton Council of Churches Food Pantry, $2,500 to provide services for residents of the Town and Village of Clayton and Depauville who turn to the pantry for assistance to provide nutritious holiday meals for families. The Pantry provides a 21-meal program for each qualifying family member each month. It has a history of serving 500 families, annually distributing nearly 2,000 meals.
River Hospital, Alexandria Bay, $3,000 to continue the Riverside Foundation’s ongoing support for the hospital’s emergency room and its Post-Traumatic Stress Services program for members of the active-duty military, veterans, and first responders.
“River Hospital has grown from a small rural facility to a multi-service hospital with services usually found only in much larger hospitals,” Mr. and Mrs. Brick said.
Thousand Islands Museum, Clayton, $2,500 to reach out to secondary and high school students to learn from and appreciate the rich heritage of the 1000 Islands region.
Salvation Army Watertown Corps, $2,500 to assist individuals and families who turn to them for holiday meals and Christmas programs for children.
Jefferson Community College, Watertown, $2,500 to supplement the Riverside Foundation’s existing “Fort Drum-Brick and Herr Family Scholarship” for a Fort Drum soldier or family member enrolled in college business classes. The scholarship was established in 1998.

As Clayton residents, Cary and Janet Brick were active in village and town affairs and served as justices in Clayton Village and Town Courts.
“We are proud of our Northern New York Community Foundation connection,” Mr. and Mrs. Brick said. “Since its founding in 1929, the Community Foundation has partnered with individuals and families who turn to them to administer charitable funds.”
