Community Sessions for Six Town Community Fund

September 28, 2016 by admin

The committee for the Six Town Community Fund will present two information sessions for local residents and non-profit organizations interested in seeking grants from the community fund to support local projects. The public gatherings will be held on Tuesday, October 4 at Belleville Henderson Central School, and Thursday, October 6 at South Jefferson Central School. Each session will start at 6:30 p.m.

The Six Town Community Fund is designed specifically to advance projects, programs and initiatives in the towns and surrounding communities of Adams, Ellisburg, Henderson, Lorraine, Rodman and Worth. It is a component fund of the Northern New York Community Foundation. “Thanks to contributions from individuals, families, and business organizations—along with a matching grant from the Northern New York Community Foundation—we now have a permanent fund that pools our resources and allows us to accomplish more for the community together than we could individually,” said committee chair David J. Zembiec.

Last year, $5,000 in total grant awards from the Six Town Community Fund supported seven community projects across the region. Grant recipients were:

  • South Jefferson Central School – $1,300

Provide support for training at the district’s adventure education course

  • Rohde Center – $1,000

Assist with costs for 2016 community walk/run to build organizational support

  • Adams Revitalization Committee – $600

Support for the organization’s 2016 Adams Community Concert Series

  • South Jefferson Rescue Squad, Inc. – $600

Funding for the organization’s recent capital project

  • Henderson Free Library – $500

Supply initial funding to develop outdoor reading area/classroom

  • Town of Lorraine – $500

Restoration of signage recognizing community’s military members

  • Harbor View Housing Development Fund Company, Inc. – $500

Equipment purchase to enhance programming offered to elderly residents

Non-profit organization representatives and area residents are encouraged to attend the community sessions to learn more about the Six Town Community Fund. Past community fund grant recipients and applicants are encouraged to pursue this funding opportunity again this year. Grant guidelines will be made available in early October.

Mr. Zembiec noted that the Six Town Community Fund continues to seek contributions. “The more we grow the fund, the more grant funding we can award each year”, he added. “It’s the gift that keeps on giving.”
