Foundation Launches New Online Grant Application Portal, Announces Funding Opportunities

March 26, 2021 by admin

New Process Creates Efficiencies, Strengthens Stewardship of Grants to Nonprofits

WATERTOWN — The Northern New York Community Foundation is pleased to announce the launch of a new online grant portal that features a variety of funding opportunities open to nonprofit organizations to review and apply.

The Community Foundation is introducing its Grant Lifecycle Manager (GLM) system on its website today. The online portal allows nonprofits to create an organization user profile and apply for active grant opportunities. The Foundation encourages nonprofits to set up a single user account for the organization. The portal features a simple interface that guides users through step-by-step instructions on how to apply. Resources are available on the Foundation’s website, nnycf.org/grants, and on the portal’s log-in page to learn more about the process.

“Our new online grant system will enhance the application and stewardship experience for local nonprofits,” said Max DelSignore, Community Foundation assistant director. “The platform will create greater efficiencies and help build confidence in our nonprofit community when applying for grants. Most importantly, the introduction of this system aligns closely with our organizational belief in responsible stewardship of meaningful gifts from donors to support community programs and projects across the tri-county region.”

The Community Foundation stewards a collection of nearly 1,000 charitable funds, many of which award competitive grant support to nonprofit organizations working to improve the quality of life for residents of Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence counties, and nearly 450 that award scholarships to high school graduates pursuing post-secondary education.

To be eligible for Community Foundation grants, nonprofits must be classified as a 501(c)(3) organization by the IRS. Other entities may be eligible depending on the request. Nonprofits may start the process of creating a user profile here and explore active funding opportunities here.

A series of Community Foundation grant opportunities are now open, which includes the Foundation’s general grant and COVID-19 Community Support Fund programs. The second quarter deadline to apply for the Foundation’s general grant program, and for each of the following grant opportunities, is Friday, April 23:

  • Kenneth V. and Jeannette Remp Sawyer Community Fund — Support for programs, projects and initiatives that enhance the quality of life for residents of all ages in the Boonville, Constableville, and Westernville communities. Up to $50,000 is available this year.
  • Orchestral Fund -— Support for live orchestral performances in the Watertown area. Eligible nonprofit organizations are required to have at least 20 performers in the group with an instrumental component.
Up to $20,000 is available this year.
  • George R. Davis Fund for Lowville — Support for programs, projects and initiatives that impact the quality of life for residents in the Village and Town of Lowville. Up to $15,000 is available this year.
  • Carolyn Whitney Fund — Support for tree planting projects in the City of Watertown. Up to $4,000
    is available this year.
  • The Lighthouse Fund — Support to nonprofit organizations providing services to disadvantaged and vulnerable populations in the Cape Vincent and Clayton communities. Up to $2,000 is available this year.

Additional grant opportunities through the Community Foundation will become available on the GLM platform in the coming months. Contact Kraig Everard, Community Foundation director of stewardship and programs, kraig@nnycf.org, or Max DelSignore at max@nnycf.org, to learn more about GLM and any funding opportunities. They may also be reached at 315-782-7110.

About the Northern New York Community Foundation

Since 1929, the Northern New York Community Foundation has invested in improving and enriching the quality of life for all in communities across Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence counties.

Through partnerships with businesses and organizations, charitable foundations, and generous families and individual donors, the Community Foundation awards grants and scholarships from an endowment and collection of funds that benefit the region.
