New Antwerp Children’s Services Fund Now Accepting Applications for Grant Support

January 23, 2026 By admin

Up to $2,000 Available to Help Antwerp Children Reach their Full Potential

ANTWERP — Nonprofit organizations serving children who live in the Town or Village of Antwerp may apply for up to $2,000 in funding from the newly established Antwerp Children’s Services Fund of the Northern New York Community Foundation.

Antwerp native Terry Hull recently partnered with the Community Foundation to create a charitable resource that benefits children who live in his hometown by strengthening opportunities for positive child and youth development.

The Antwerp Children’s Services Fund supports programs and services that help every Antwerp child reach their full potential by enhancing health, educational, social, and recreational opportunities. Grant funding is available to support programs, projects, and initiatives of nonprofit organizations that serve children in the Town and Village of Antwerp.

Successful applicants will focus their projects on the nutritional, health, social, educational, and recreational services to Antwerp’s children and support efforts to fill gaps and enhance those services.

In partnering with the Community Foundation, Mr. Hull aims to ensure that every Antwerp child will grow to reach his or her full potential while strengthening the resilience of the community and enhancing services to its children.

“Community Foundations are uniquely positioned work alongside donors to support what they care about most. It has been an honor to partner with Mr. Hull to focus on a specific need within a certain geographic
area and help find the best ways to make a difference for the children of Antwerp now and in the future,” said Rande S. Richardson, Community Foundation executive director.

Eligible nonprofit organizations seeking support should submit proposals by Friday, Feb. 20, 2026, for consideration. Organizations that do not have 501(c)(3) classification are required to partner with an eligible nonprofit, municipality, or local agency as a fiscal sponsor. Agencies seeking funding must confirm partnership with an eligible nonprofit or fiscal sponsor when submitting a proposal.

All grant applications must be completed through the Community Foundation’s online grant portal, which may be accessed at bit.ly/grant-portal. Grant awards will be determined in March and, in most cases, announced no later than April 15.

An advisory committee of the Antwerp Children’s Services Fund will review grant applications and recommend funding. Committee members include Shelly Brinson, village trustee; Jenna Brownell, town parent; Stacey Albro, Broken Arrow Ranch owner; Liz Filkins, village parent; Claire Brownell, town councilwoman; Bailey Filkins, youth member; Betsy Munroe, child services; and Stephanie Widrick, Antwerp Primary School Principal.

Contact Kraig Everard, Community Foundation director of philanthropy, 315-782-7110, or email kraig@nnycf.org, to learn more about this opportunity to strengthen the Antwerp area.

About founding donor Terry Hull

Currently an Olympia, Wash., resident, Terry Hull grew up in Antwerp and has maintained a deep personal connection to the community that shaped him through his formative years. Mr. Hull is a 1959 Indian River Central High School graduate and earned degrees from St. Lawrence University and the University of Minnesota.

He initiated this effort out of a genuine sense of responsibility to give back to his hometown after a varied career in public and environmental health planning, advocacy, and administration. In his last position before retiring, he led Northwest nonprofit lender Craft3 in creating a fund that helps Washington and Oregon homeowners with failing septic systems obtain nontraditional repair loans.

Terry’s son, Gerit, a Washington, D.C., area attorney, and daughter, Emily, a health research project manager at the University of Washington, will be joining him in furthering his work on behalf of Antwerp’s children.

Congratulations to the winners of our Youth Philanthropy Council's fourth “Canstruction for Northern New York” competition to help reduce food insecurity across the tri-county region.

Carthage Middle School’s Builders Club & Student Government students are the winners of the “People’s Choice Award” and the “Top Collection Award,” and Watertown High School’s Student Council students took home the “Best Design Award.”

Other teams participating in this year’s competition include: Beaver River Central School’s 9th grade Earth science class with “Pack It Up;” First Presbyterian Church of Watertown, N.Y. Sunday School Class and Youth Group with “Food Steeple;” and South Jefferson High School’s Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) chapter with “Be the Light in Someone’s Storm.”

The five participating teams combined to collect more than 3,300 canned goods and other nonperishable food items or hygiene products that will help restock school-based backpack programs and community food pantries in Jefferson and Lewis counties. Additionally, the winning teams will share $1,500 in grant awards to present to two different local nonprofit organizations that participants selected.
