United Way of Northern New York, Community Foundation Announce Partnership for North Country Center of Nonprofit Excellence

    WATERTOWN — United Way of Northern New York and the Northern New York Community Foundation are pleased to announce a collaborative partnership to provide critical education and training to community organizations in Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence Counties. The UWNNY’s North Country Center of Nonprofit Excellence will offer professional development workshops and skill training symposiums, which gives participants the knowledge and tools to increase organizational performance and agility.

    “The United Way is thrilled to partner with the Community Foundation,” said Jamie Cox, United Way of Northern New York chief executive officer. “By working together, we are going to have the ability to provide best-in-class training, which will result in nonprofit organizations throughout the North Country having more effective programs and increased financial efficiency. Youth Philanthropy Council Extends Deadline for Funding Proposals

Grant Requests Due Friday, Feb. 28 for 2020 Decision; Up to $20,000 Available

     WATERTOWN — The Northern New York Community Foundation Youth Philanthropy Council haws extended its deadline for grant requests from nonprofit organizations of all types for projects, programs or initiatives that positively impact the quality of life in Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence counties. The council will evaluate each proposal and has up to $20,000 in grant funding to award.

     For award consideration, completed grant applications must be received at the Northern New York Community Foundation, 131 Washington St., Watertown, N.Y. 13601, no later than Friday, Feb. 28, 2020. Council members will notify finalists selected to present proposals in the spring. The council will recommend grants for funding to the Community Foundation’s board of directors, which will review recommendations during its quarterly meeting in June 2020. Last year, the Youth Philanthropy Council awarded 10 grants totaling $20,600 in support to nonprofit organizations that serve residents of the tri-county region.

Safe Schools Endeavor Announces Grants to Jefferson, Lewis Schools

More Than $16,000 Will Support Safety Initiatives and Programs in 11 Schools    

    WATERTOWN — The Safe Schools Endeavor, in partnership with the Northern New York Community Foundation, has awarded $16,237 in grants to 11 schools in Jefferson and Lewis counties for the 2019-2020 school year.

    The Safe Schools Endeavor Fund steering committee received and reviewed 15 grant applications for programs that empower and support students, parents and faculty to create the safest schools possible in Jefferson and Lewis counties. This is the second year that grant awards have been made from the fund. Last year, the Safe Schools Endeavor awarded nearly $30,000 to 15 schools in the two counties.

Foundation Makes $35,000 Grant to Food Pantries Across Northern New York

Funding for 41 Locations Includes Support to School-Based Pantries, Food Bank Partners

    WATERTOWN — The Northern New York Community Foundation is pleased to provide $35,000 in support to local food pantries and soup kitchens in Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence counties. The board-approved grant will help strengthen programs and stock shelves at community food pantries, thrift stores and soup kitchens across the tri-county region.

    The Community Foundation provides annual support to organizations that operate in partnership with the Food Bank of Central New York, Syracuse. Forty-one organizations are set to receive funding through the latest grant that the Community Foundation Board of Directors approved last week.

Cary and Janet Brick Riverside Foundation Supports River Hospital

Hope + Healing Campaign Gift Will Aid Emergency Department Expansion Presently Underway

    ALEXANDRIA BAY — The Cary and Janet Brick Riverside Foundation, affiliated with the Northern New York Community Foundation, recently expressed support for River Hospital through a gift to aid its emergency department and expansion.

    Established in 2017, the Brick Riverside Foundation is a geographic-specific charitable foundation that provides support for St. Lawrence River-area programs and institutions to enhance the quality of life in the Thousand Islands region. It is designed to have broad impact in perpetuity.

The LEAD Council of the Northern New York Community Foundation introduced Canstruction for Northern New York in 2023 to engage local schools and student groups in collecting donated canned food, nonperishable food items, and hygiene products to support regional food pantries or local backpack programs.

This year, the Foundation’s Youth Philanthropy Council led the competition as a Council service project.

5️⃣ Five finalists submitted projects for “People’s Choice Award” consideration. 
✔️ Project descriptions are found with each photo, so please review all photos 📸 and videos 🎥 for each submission.
🚧 Terrific work completed by all FIVE teams that entered this year’s competition!
🥫 Each structure is made from donated items that will be given to local food pantries and backpack programs of the participants’ choice!

We are pleased to announce a $10,000 grant package to support this year’s Concert in the Park event.

Total funding includes an initial $5,000 grant and an up to $5,000 matching grant commitment to support first time contributions for this year’s concert. That means the Community Foundation will double all new gifts made in support of this year’s performance by those who have not previously participated.
