Sawyer Community Fund Boosts Firefighter Safety

Grant Helps Purchase Industrial Washer to Rid Turnout Gear of Toxic Chemicals    

    CONSTABLEVILLE — A recent grant awarded from the Kenneth V. and Jeannette Remp Sawyer Community Fund of the Northern New York Community Foundation will help the local fire company maintain its turnout gear while maximizing health and safety for its firefighters.

    A $1,500 grant to the Constableville Fire Company helped purchase an industrial washing machine to effectively clean turnout gear. According to fire officials, advanced cleaning from an industrial unit helps to remove toxic chemicals and cancer-causing carcinogens that are known to contaminate turnout gear during fires. Properly cleaning the gear will minimize health risks for firefighters and extend the life of the gear.

Young Woman’s Passion for Learning, Helping Others Will Endure

Rebecca Rhodes Memorial Scholarship Established to Honor Henderson Native    

    WATERTOWN — A new, permanent scholarship fund has been established at the Northern New York Community Foundation to honor the legacy of Rebecca A.G. Rhodes, a gifted student who was endlessly curious about the natural world around her.

    Ms. Rhodes, a Henderson native, was a 2010 Belleville-Henderson Central School graduate. At the time of her passing in 2018, she was graduating from the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) in Oxford, Miss., with a Master of Science in engineering science focusing on geological engineering. She was the daughter of Gary and Jolene Rhodes.

Foundation Extends Deadline to Enter Community Spirit Youth Giving Challenge

Tri-County 7th- and 8th-Graders Encouraged to Apply No Later Than Monday, Dec. 2   

    WATERTOWN — The Northern New York Community Foundation has extended the deadline for seventh- and eighth-graders to enter the 2019-2020 Community Spirit Youth Giving Challenge. Completed applications must be received or postmarked by Monday, Dec. 2.

    The challenge seeks to engage seventh- and eighth-grade students in exploring their communities as they compete for an opportunity to award a local nonprofit a $500 grant.

Sawyer Community Fund Helps Make Key Improvements in Erwin Park

Second Grant to ‘Friends of Erwin Park’ Will Help With Overall Park Renewal Project

    BOONVILLE — Two recent grants awarded from the Kenneth V. and Jeannette Remp Sawyer Community Fund of the Northern New York Community Foundation will go a long way to improve a centerpiece of community in the village.

    A $4,000 grant to the Village of Boonville will help purchase inclusive playground equipment at Erwin Park. Installation of a wheelchair swing and interactive play station for all residents to use will be valuable additions to the playground and enhance general quality of life in the community.

Working with donors to benefit the community through grants and scholarships since 1929.

We are pleased to announce a $10,000 grant package to support this year’s Concert in the Park event.

Total funding includes an initial $5,000 grant and an up to $5,000 matching grant commitment to support first time contributions for this year’s concert. That means the Community Foundation will double all new gifts made in support of this year’s performance by those who have not previously participated.

Are you a young leader in your school or community?

The Northern New York Community Foundation is now accepting applications for service on its Youth Philanthropy Council from all Jefferson County rising sophomores and juniors.

This is the second year the Community Foundation will welcome applications from students attending any of the county’s 13 public and private schools, as well as home-schooled students, provided they reside in a Jefferson County school district.

Applications must be submitted by Friday, May 29, to Emily Pfeil, Community Foundation philanthropy associate. Contact Ms. Pfeil at emily@nnycf.org or 315-782-7110 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. weekdays to obtain an application and learn more.

Dr. D. Susan Badenhausen was a tireless advocate for the people and places of St. Lawrence County. Nearly eight years after she passed, she continues to impact the community she generously served and was proud to call home.

The Brasher Falls High School robotics team, St. Lawrence Slc Stingerz FTC 13359, are so very grateful to be receiving this generous award. We appreciate all of the support that the Northern New York Community Foundation has given us! We will be heading to Fayetteville-Manlius High School over spring break to complete in a fun “Balloon Battle Bot Bash”.
