Community Foundation’s LEAD Council Offers Funding Opportunity for Tri-County Nonprofits

Up to $20,000 Now Available for Initiatives Focusing on Basic Human Needs, Mental Health, and Workforce Development

     WATERTOWN — Nonprofit organizations serving tri-county residents are invited to apply for up to $20,000 in funding through the LEAD Impact Grant Program, an initiative of the Northern New York Community Foundation’s LEAD Council.

     The LEAD Council is an advisory committee of young professionals empowered to make key investments in the tri-county region through community grants and volunteerism. Council members want to learn more about the work of nonprofits and are accepting proposals for Impact Grant Program funding through Tuesday,October 14, 2025.

Community Foundation Partners to Award 1,157 Scholarships Supporting Post-Secondary Education

Donors Work to Expand Opportunities for Aid Through New Awards, Initiatives

     WATERTOWN — The Northern New York Community Foundation, in partnership with donors, has awarded 1,157 scholarships this year totaling $1.56 million to help 743 students pursue their post-secondary educational goals.

     Students awarded support are pursuing a wide range of post-secondary educational studies, including trade, technical, vocational, and two- and four-year college programs. The average award this year is $2,100 per student. In many cases, students may receive more than one award from the Community Foundation.

Nico Spaziani named Jeffrey W. Kimball WHS Class of 2003 Scholarship recipient

Standout Scholar Athlete Committed to Play Division I Lacrosse at Binghamton

    WATERTOWN — Nico Spaziani is this year’s recipient of the Northern New York Community Foundation’s Jeffrey W. Kimball, MBA, WHS Class of 2003 Scholarship.

     Nico graduated in June from Watertown High School where he was a standout three-sport athlete, competing in varsity soccer, basketball, and lacrosse.

     He is attending Binghamton University this fall to pursue studies in business management. He has also committed to play Division I lacrosse for the Bearcats. Nico aspires to work in the pharmaceutical field. Nico is the son of Stacy and Vincenzo Spaziani, Watertown.

Kenneth V. and Jeannette Remp Sawyer Community Fund Announces $60,000 in Grant Funding

Thirteen Organizations Will Share Support for a Wide Range of Community Projects and Programs to Strengthen Quality of Life for Local Residents

     BOONVILLE — Thirteen community projects and organizations that benefit Boonville, Constableville, and Westernville residents will share $60,000 in funding from the Kenneth V. and Jeannette Remp Sawyer Community Fund of the Northern New York Community Foundation this year.

    Mr. and Mrs. Sawyer were passionate about enhancing the quality of life in these three communities. They participated in many community activities and volunteered with several meaningful organizations. As part of their enduring gift to the region, they created a community fund that would benefit citizens of all ages in these communities in perpetuity.

First Recipient of Community Foundation’s Ann Renzi Haynes Award Named

Arc Jefferson-St. Lawrence Employee Embodies Kindness, Perseverance

     WATERTOWN — An Arc Jefferson-St. Lawrence team member has been named the first recipient of the Northern New York Community Foundation Ann Renzi Haynes Award.

     Allyson Robinson, a General Brown High School graduate who is employed at the Arc Jefferson-St. Lawrence through its supportive employment program, was recently honored for the integral role she plays in helping the team fulfill its Impacto contracts at its Bradley Street facility.

The LEAD Council of the Northern New York Community Foundation introduced Canstruction for Northern New York in 2023 to engage local schools and student groups in collecting donated canned food, nonperishable food items, and hygiene products to support regional food pantries or local backpack programs.

This year, the Foundation’s Youth Philanthropy Council led the competition as a Council service project.

5️⃣ Five finalists submitted projects for “People’s Choice Award” consideration. 
✔️ Project descriptions are found with each photo, so please review all photos 📸 and videos 🎥 for each submission.
🚧 Terrific work completed by all FIVE teams that entered this year’s competition!
🥫 Each structure is made from donated items that will be given to local food pantries and backpack programs of the participants’ choice!
👋 We need YOUR VOTE for your favorite project starting TODAY! Polls will remain open for the “People’s Choice Award” until 11:59 p.m. Wednesday, April 15. 🗳️ Vote for your favorite Canstruction project!

We are pleased to announce a $10,000 grant package to support this year’s Concert in the Park event.

Total funding includes an initial $5,000 grant and an up to $5,000 matching grant commitment to support first time contributions for this year’s concert. That means the Community Foundation will double all new gifts made in support of this year’s performance by those who have not previously participated.
