April 29, 2019 By admin

Application Deadline for Inaugural Award Fast Approaching Wednesday, May 15

WATERTOWN — The deadline to apply for the inaugural George C. Boldt Scholarship is just two weeks away. Completed applications must be received at the Northern New York Community Foundation, 131 Washington St., Watertown, by Wednesday, May 15.

Boldt Castle, Heart Island, Alexandria Bay, N.Y.

Jefferson County residents pursuing full-time undergraduate study are eligible to apply; graduate study is not funded. Students who plan to attend technical, trade or vocational schools may also apply. Applications are accepted from high school seniors or nontraditional students who have had a break in their studies. The scholarship is a one-year award of up to $5,000 with three scholarships awarded this year.

Scholarship recipients are chosen based on combined Regents scores, cumulative high school GPA, personal data, application essay scores and letters of recommendation.

Application packets for the George C. Boldt Scholarship may be downloaded and printed from the Community Foundation’s website at www.nnycf.org/scholarships/applications and www.nnycf.org/scholarships/scholarships-available. Students should thoroughly read all application instructions.

Completed packets must be returned by Wednesday, May 15. Students must include a complete, signed application, an essay, appraisal forms, references and transcripts. Contact Mary Perrine, coordinator of partnerships at 315-782-7110 or maryp@nnycf.org with application or scholarship program questions.

About the George C. Boldt Scholarship

George C. Boldt with his three granddaughters, Clover, on his lap with Manuelita, and Louise, standing. Malcolm Goodridge, who is helping establish the scholarship, is the son of Louise and the great-grandson of Mr. Boldt.

Following a summer 2017 family gathering at Boldt Castle, descendants of George C. Boldt, led by great-grandson Malcolm Goodridge, decided to create a permanent scholarship fund that would forever benefit students of the region. The Northern New York Community Foundation was selected to administer the scholarship. Scholarship recipients will be invited to Boldt Castle on Heart Island, where the scholarship awards will be presented.
