Foundation’s North Side Legacy Fund Supports Two Students with Family Ties to Former League

$1,000 Awarded to Help Students Pursue Post-Secondary Educational Studies

     WATERTOWN — The North Side Legacy Fund of the Northern New York Community Foundation recently presented two members of the Class of 2024 with scholarships totaling $1,000 to support their post-secondary educational pursuits.

     The North Side Legacy Fund was established in 2019 as a permanent fund of the Northern New York Community Foundation to forever honor and perpetuate the history and heritage of the North Side Improvement League.

     Graduating high school seniors who live in the City of Watertown as well as students from other areas who have family ties to the League are encouraged to apply.

Community Foundation’s Dr. D. Susan Badenhausen Legacy Fund Offers up to $50,000 in Grant Support

Nonprofit Organizations Serving St. Lawrence County Encouraged to Apply for Funding by October 18

     WATERTOWN — The Dr. D. Susan Badenhausen Legacy Fund of the Northern New York Community Foundation is now accepting grant applications for 2024 funding from charitable organizations whose work improves the quality of life in St. Lawrence County.

     Grant funding is available to nonprofit organizations that serve St. Lawrence County and whose efforts align with one or more of the following focus areas: arts and culture; conservation and wildlife preservation; educational programs; and general health and well-being.

Foundation’s Six Town Community Fund Now Accepting Proposals for 2024 Grant Funding

Up to $7,500 Available for Nonprofits Serving Southern Jefferson County Residents

     ADAMS — Nonprofit organizations serving southern Jefferson County residents may now apply for up to $7,500 in grant funding through the Six Town Community Fund of the Northern New York Community Foundation.

     This geographic fund provides support for local projects, programs, and initiatives that enhance the quality of life in the Six Town area. Eligible organizations must actively serve residents in the towns of Adams, Ellisburg, Henderson, Lorraine, Rodman, and Worth. Requests may focus on assisting with local needs related to health and wellness, families and youth, arts and culture, history, education and more.

Community Foundation’s LEAD Council Offers Funding Opportunity for Tri-County Nonprofits

Up to $20,000 in Support Available Through the LEAD Impact Grant Program

     WATERTOWN — Nonprofit organizations serving tri-county residents are invited to apply for up to $20,000 in funding through the LEAD Impact Grant Program, an initiative of the Northern New York Community Foundation’s LEAD Council.

     The LEAD Council is an advisory committee of young professionals empowered to make key investments in the tri-county region through community grants and volunteerism. Council members want to learn more about the work of nonprofits and are accepting proposals for Impact Grant Program funding through Friday, September 27, 2024.

Community Foundation’s Class of 2024 Wilcox Family Scholarship Recipients Named

Indian River Students Presented Scholarships in Memory of Longtime Teacher, Coach, and Community Servant Allen T. Drake

     THERESA — Indian River High School graduates BreeLynn J. LaLonde and Connor D. McMahon are the Class of 2024 recipients of the Community Foundation’s Russell I. and Mary Wilcox Family Scholarship.

     This year’s scholarships were awarded in memory of longtime Indian River Central educator and coach Allen T. Drake, a dear friend of the Wilcox family who unexpectedly passed away in July.

We are excited to share the Week 3 Scholarship Challenge Leaderboard!

In Jefferson County, Sackets Harbor Central took the lead with 50 percent student participation; In Lewis County, South Lewis Central held onto the lead, increasing to 25.35 percent student participation; and in St. Lawrence County, Colton-Pierrepont Central held onto the lead, still with 23.08 percent student participation.

All schools have a chance to win Community Foundation grant funding by increasing student participation in the scholarship program to at least 25 percent of the senior class. 

The first round of grants will be determined in a Facebook Live event on Monday, February 23! That means schools only have one more week to increase student participation to 25 percent or more of the senior class to be eligible for the first round of Scholarship Challenge grants. So far, only THREE schools meet the threshold for the first round of grants!

Seniors: Do you plan to continue your education in college or trade or technical school? Winter break is the perfect opportunity to complete the Community Foundation’s online common application at bit.ly/nnycf-scholarships today and help your school win!

We are pleased to announce a pair of strategic initiatives to support the longevity and capacity of tri-county nonprofits.

The Northern New York Community Foundation is launching a $250,000 matching commitment to build existing nonprofit endowment funds the Foundation stewards. Ten individual matching grants of $25,000 will be awarded to each participating organization on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Foundation is also introducing the Nonprofit Capacity Building Initiative, a new grant program to help strengthen the effectiveness of local nonprofits.
