Community Foundation grant funding helping to restore Massena’s historic Schine Theater

Foundation matching grant now doubling all new gifts in support of the project

     MASSENA — Community Foundation grant funding totaling $62,000 will help the Massena Arts and Theater Association move its vision for a new heart of downtown closer to reality and “Unlock the Schine.”

     In December, the Association was awarded a pair of $25,000 Community Foundation matching grants and a $10,000 grant from the Dr. D. Susan Badenhausen Legacy Fund at the Foundation to support the $3.2 million Schine Theater restoration. An additional $2,000 grant from the Ray E. Richardson Fund of the Community Foundation was also recently awarded.

Community Foundation Seeks Proposals for New Community Fund Grant Program

Applications for Funding Support are Due by Friday, April 24

     WATERTOWN — A new Community Fund Grant Program at the Northern New York Community Foundation is now accepting applications from local nonprofits that make an impact in specific communities.

     A variety of donors have helped establish charitable funds at the Community Foundation to benefit local villages, towns, and communities. The Foundation is the responsible steward of these community funds. This year, the Foundation is pooling these place-based funds into one grant application to magnify their impact across Northern New York.

Newly Established JP North Country Music Scholarship Supports Tri-County Students Pursuing Music Studies

Seniors are Encouraged to Apply to the Community Foundation by May 1

     WATERTOWN — Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence county students in the Class of 2026 who plan to pursue studies in music are encouraged to apply by May 1 to the Northern New York Community Foundation for the JP North Country Music Scholarship.

     A total of $1,500 in scholarship support is available with preference given to students who plan to attend SUNY Potsdam’s Crane School of Music. Qualified music students should apply for the JP North Country Music Scholarship through the Community Foundation’s online scholarship portal at bit.ly/nnycf-scholarships.

Memorial Scholarship Committee Partners with Community Foundation to Steward Jake Ladouceur Memorial Scholarship

St. Lawrence County Senior Student Athletes Should Apply for Support by March 15

     WATERTOWN — St. Lawrence County student athletes in the Class of 2026 are encouraged to apply by March 15 to the Northern New York Community Foundation for the Jake Ladouceur Memorial Scholarship.

     The Jake Ladouceur Memorial Scholarship is a $1,700 award, presented annually to a college-bound student athlete who best embodies a competitive spirit with a high regard for sportsmanship and academic achievement. Applications from the honoree’s alma-mater, Norwood-Norfolk Central School, will be given first consideration.

The Youth Philanthropy Council of the Northern New York Community Foundation is pleased to announce $25,000 in grant funding for six tri-county nonprofit organizations that will support a diverse range of community programs and initiatives.

Council Chair April Wang, a second-year member and 2026 Watertown High School graduate, said the Council had many worthy requests for grant funding this year.

“Guided by a commitment to thoughtful stewardship and community impact, the Youth Philanthropy Council has carefully selected grant recipients whose work addresses critical needs and fosters meaningful progress,” Ms. Wang said. “I am beyond proud of the diligence and purpose reflected in the Council’s work this year.”

We are pleased to invite the public to experience an evening of inspiring music at the annual Sidney T. Cox Memorial Concert on Friday, July 10, at 7:30 p.m. at the Clayton Opera House, featuring The Syracuse Orchestra.

Presented with support from the Community Foundation in partnership with the Thousand Islands Performing Arts Fund (TIPAF), the annual concert honors the enduring legacy of Sidney T. Cox.

This year’s performance blends beloved classical masterworks with familiar favorites from Broadway and the silver screen. Audiences will enjoy selections from Wicked, The Sound of Music, Jurassic Park, Beauty and the Beast, Kiki’s Delivery Service, and Wicked, alongside works by Aaron Copland, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, Duke Ellington and others.

Together with the Italian-American Civic Association and Immaculate Heart Central School, we are pleased to announce the 2026 recipients of the Clarence B. “Boots” Gaffney Award.

Julianna L. Delaney was selected as the women’s recipient and Jameson M. Lettiere was named as this year’s men’s honoree.
