Sawyer Community Fund Helps Make Key Improvements in Erwin Park

Second Grant to ‘Friends of Erwin Park’ Will Help With Overall Park Renewal Project

    BOONVILLE — Two recent grants awarded from the Kenneth V. and Jeannette Remp Sawyer Community Fund of the Northern New York Community Foundation will go a long way to improve a centerpiece of community in the village.

    A $4,000 grant to the Village of Boonville will help purchase inclusive playground equipment at Erwin Park. Installation of a wheelchair swing and interactive play station for all residents to use will be valuable additions to the playground and enhance general quality of life in the community.

Stephen H. Can Visits Class During Fall Reception at Jefferson Community College

WATERTOWN — The Northern New York Community Foundation is pleased to announce the 2019-2020 members of the Jefferson-Can Community Scholars program.

The new class of 35 scholars was recently honored during a fall reception at Jefferson Community College. Program donor and Jefferson Community College alumnus Stephen H. Can delivered remarks and met this year’s students.

Ten Evergreen STEM Class of 2020 Scholarship Recipients Honored

Appreciation Dinner Held in Canton Recognizes Students, Honors Founding Donors

   CANTON — Ten St. Lawrence County high school students were recently honored as recipients of the Northern New York Community Foundation Evergreen STEM Scholarship.

    Students earned the scholarship due to their interest and intent to study in a science, technology, engineering or mathematics field while in college. Students applied while in their junior year of high school and were selected during the summer. Recipients are each members of the Class of 2020 and will receive a one-year $3,000 scholarship toward their freshman year of college next fall.

Sawyer Community Fund Works to Improve Constableville Playground

Project Just One Way Kenneth V. and Jeannette Remp Sawyer Continue to Impact Areas They Loved   

    CONSTABLEVILLE — A village playground saw some much-needed revitalization this summer thanks to a grant from the Kenneth V. and Jeannette Remp Sawyer Community Fund at the Northern New York Community Foundation.

    Officials used a $1,500 award to install new bedding chips and a border to keep them in place. The grant also helped support fresh coats of stain and paint in several worn-out sections of the playground.

Community Foundation LEAD Council Awards First Impact Grants

Three Nonprofits Earn Support for Child Care, Early Childhood Development

    WATERTOWN — More than 600 children and their families in Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence counties will benefit from funding the Northern New York Community Foundation’s LEAD Council recently awarded to three nonprofit organizations to address child care and early childhood development needs.

    LEAD Impact Grant Program awards will support an Imagination Library in the tri-county area, fund expansion of an after-school enrichment program in St. Lawrence County, and help to enhance curriculum at a Canton day care center.

In Jefferson County, Faith Fellowship Christian School held the lead with 100 percent student participation! Sackets Harbor Central remains a strong second with 50 percent participation; In Lewis County, Copenhagen Central took the lead, increasing to 37.84 percent student participation; and in St. Lawrence County, Colton-Pierrepont Central held onto its lead with 26.92 percent student participation.

Seniors: Money for your future is waiting! Do you plan to continue your education in college or trade or technical school? Complete the Community Foundation’s online common application at bit.ly/nnycf-scholarships today and help your school win!
