Safe Schools Endeavor Announces Grants to Jefferson, Lewis Schools

More Than $16,000 Will Support Safety Initiatives and Programs in 11 Schools    

    WATERTOWN — The Safe Schools Endeavor, in partnership with the Northern New York Community Foundation, has awarded $16,237 in grants to 11 schools in Jefferson and Lewis counties for the 2019-2020 school year.

    The Safe Schools Endeavor Fund steering committee received and reviewed 15 grant applications for programs that empower and support students, parents and faculty to create the safest schools possible in Jefferson and Lewis counties. This is the second year that grant awards have been made from the fund. Last year, the Safe Schools Endeavor awarded nearly $30,000 to 15 schools in the two counties.

Foundation Makes $35,000 Grant to Food Pantries Across Northern New York

Funding for 41 Locations Includes Support to School-Based Pantries, Food Bank Partners

    WATERTOWN — The Northern New York Community Foundation is pleased to provide $35,000 in support to local food pantries and soup kitchens in Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence counties. The board-approved grant will help strengthen programs and stock shelves at community food pantries, thrift stores and soup kitchens across the tri-county region.

    The Community Foundation provides annual support to organizations that operate in partnership with the Food Bank of Central New York, Syracuse. Forty-one organizations are set to receive funding through the latest grant that the Community Foundation Board of Directors approved last week.

Cary and Janet Brick Riverside Foundation Supports River Hospital

Hope + Healing Campaign Gift Will Aid Emergency Department Expansion Presently Underway

    ALEXANDRIA BAY — The Cary and Janet Brick Riverside Foundation, affiliated with the Northern New York Community Foundation, recently expressed support for River Hospital through a gift to aid its emergency department and expansion.

    Established in 2017, the Brick Riverside Foundation is a geographic-specific charitable foundation that provides support for St. Lawrence River-area programs and institutions to enhance the quality of life in the Thousand Islands region. It is designed to have broad impact in perpetuity.

Day of Giving Set to Benefit 27 Tri-County Nonprofits

#giveNNY Campaign Culminates With 12-Hour #GivingTuesday Radiothon on Tunes 92.5/104.5 FM

     WATERTOWN — Twenty-seven nonprofit organizations will participate in the #giveNNY campaign day of giving tomorrow, Tuesday Dec. 3. The local effort works to unite tri-county nonprofits on the international #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide.

     The Community Foundation will match all gifts to the campaign up to $10,000. Participating nonprofit organizations benefit through an equal share of gifts made to the campaign distributed as grants from the Northern New York Community Foundation. The Foundation is also stewarding all gifts made to this year’s campaign with opportunities to give online or through traditional methods. An online giving portal is open at nnycf.org/givenny. Gifts may also be dropped off or mailed to 131 Washington St., Watertown, NY 13601.

The Youth Philanthropy Council of the Northern New York Community Foundation is pleased to announce $25,000 in grant funding for six tri-county nonprofit organizations that will support a diverse range of community programs and initiatives.

Council Chair April Wang, a second-year member and 2026 Watertown High School graduate, said the Council had many worthy requests for grant funding this year.

“Guided by a commitment to thoughtful stewardship and community impact, the Youth Philanthropy Council has carefully selected grant recipients whose work addresses critical needs and fosters meaningful progress,” Ms. Wang said. “I am beyond proud of the diligence and purpose reflected in the Council’s work this year.”

We are pleased to invite the public to experience an evening of inspiring music at the annual Sidney T. Cox Memorial Concert on Friday, July 10, at 7:30 p.m. at the Clayton Opera House, featuring The Syracuse Orchestra.

Presented with support from the Community Foundation in partnership with the Thousand Islands Performing Arts Fund (TIPAF), the annual concert honors the enduring legacy of Sidney T. Cox.

This year’s performance blends beloved classical masterworks with familiar favorites from Broadway and the silver screen. Audiences will enjoy selections from Wicked, The Sound of Music, Jurassic Park, Beauty and the Beast, Kiki’s Delivery Service, and Wicked, alongside works by Aaron Copland, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, Duke Ellington and others.

Together with the Italian-American Civic Association and Immaculate Heart Central School, we are pleased to announce the 2026 recipients of the Clarence B. “Boots” Gaffney Award.

Julianna L. Delaney was selected as the women’s recipient and Jameson M. Lettiere was named as this year’s men’s honoree.
