Grant Application Available for George Davis Fund for Lowville

March 10, 2016 By admin

The grant application for the Northern New York Community Foundation’s George R. Davis Fund for Lowville is now available. Mr. Davis spent most of his life as a Lowville resident and served as Lewis County judge for more than 20 years. Upon his death in 2010, Mr. Davis created a unique legacy by establishing a community fund that would benefit the citizens in the village and town of Lowville forever. A variety of local programs and projects have garnered support through this permanent philanthropic resource.

Six projects totaling $10,000 were awarded funding in 2015. The recipients were:

  • Lowville Rural Cemetery Association – $3,000 to purchase a GIS software program to efficiently manage cemetery records and services. This project was also supported through the Joan Davis Fund at the Community Foundation.
  • First Presbyterian Church of Lowville – $2,000 to assist with the restoration of the church’s steeple clock.
  • Lowville Free Library – $2,000 to provide new indoor and outdoor signage.
  • Lewis County Hospital Foundation – $1,000 to purchase additional seating for the hospital’s outdoor respite area.
  • Village of Lowville – $1,000 in support of securing enhanced lighting and security cameras to be used at Veteran’s Memorial Park.
  • Town of Lowville – $1,000 for continued restoration of gravestones at Jackson Street cemetery.

This year, up to $10,000 will be awarded again to help fund projects, programs and initiatives in Lowville. The deadline to submit an application for consideration is April 22, 2016.

To learn more about the George Davis Fund, or receive an application, please contact Max DelSignore, Community Foundation assistant director, at (315) 782-7110 or via email at max@nnycf.org.
