Funding Provides New Lift to Access the Main Stage With Heavy Equipment

CLAYTON — Clayton Opera House performers will soon be able to more easily access the main stage with heavy equipment thanks to a new lift that a $12,500 Community Foundation grant helped purchase.

Funding enabled the Thousand Islands Performing Arts Fund to purchase the equipment lift, which is expected to be installed in September. The new lift will improve safety during loading and unloading of heavy items for performances. Performers presently bring equipment, some more than 150 pounds, into the venue on a ramp through the front entrance. We are pleased to announce that the Rock Charitable Fund of the Northern New York Community Foundation has awarded $174,950 to 17 St. Lawrence County organizations. Grant funding will help preserve local history, improve churches, maintain cemeteries, and support military veterans in the county.

The Rock Charitable Fund was established at the Community Foundation in 2019 through a bequest from St. Lawrence County resident and retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel Marjorie J. Rock, who passed in February 2017 at the age of 96.

“Because of Marjorie’s foresight and remarkable generosity, these projects can move forward when support for this kind of work is often hard to find,” said Kraig Everard, Community Foundation director of philanthropy. “Through the Community Foundation’s stewardship, her vision comes to life, supporting projects that reflect the fabric of St. Lawrence County communities.”
