Kenneth V. and Jeannette Remp Sawyer Fund Announces $32,500 in Grant Awards

Nearly a Dozen Organizations Receive Support for Community-Based Projects and Initiatives

     BOONVILLE — Eleven organizations that serve residents of Boonville, Constableville and Westernville will receive 2019 grant awards from the Kenneth V. and Jeannette Remp Sawyer Community Fund at the Northern New York Community Foundation.

     Grants totaling $32,500 will support programs and projects that broadly impact the quality of life for residents from the three communities. Nearly 20 organizations applied for funding in the second year the opportunity has been made available. In 2018, the Sawyer Community Fund awarded $30,000 to 12 community-based organizations.

George R. Davis Fund for Lowville Announces 2019 Grant Funding

    LOWVILLE — The George R. Davis Fund of the Northern New York Community Foundation will provide $10,000 in total grant support for four projects in the Lowville area. The geographic-specific fund serves as a permanent resource for programs, projects and initiatives to enhance quality of life in the village and town of Lowville in perpetuity.

Youth Philanthropy Council Announces Grant Funding for 10 North Country Nonprofits

More than $20,000 Awarded in Program Year that Saw Record Number of Requests from Tri-County Organizations

     WATERTOWN — The Youth Philanthropy Council of the Northern New York Community Foundation recently awarded $20,600 in grants to 10 North Country nonprofit organizations to support a wide range of community programs and projects.

     Each year, the Council reviews requests from tri-county agencies to fund projects or initiatives that positively impact the quality of life in Jefferson, Lewis or St. Lawrence counties. In addition to researching and recommending grants, Council members also discuss a variety of topics, including nonprofit sustainability, grantee stewardship, community investment and leadership.

HAFF Board of Directors Recently Approves Affiliation to Strengthen Organization’s Efforts

    WATERTOWN — The Northern New York Community Foundation welcomes a new partnership to its family as an affiliate charitable foundation.

    The Heather A. Freeman Foundation (HAFF) board of directors recently approved consolidation of operations as a Community Foundation affiliate. The move strengthens efforts to continue all that HAFF donors, supporters and board members have spent more than a decade working to accomplish in Heather’s memory.

Inaugural George C. Boldt Scholarship Recipients Honored During Reception at Boldt Castle

Boldt Great-Grandson Thanks Donors, Recognizes Three Jefferson County High School Seniors

    ALEXANDRIA BAY — Three Jefferson County high school seniors were recently named recipients of the inaugural Northern New York Community Foundation George C. Boldt Scholarship.

    Alexandria Central High School students Matthew Ford and Dylan O’Connor, and Watertown High School student Abrianna Parson, were each awarded $5,000 scholarships in a ceremony at Boldt Castle on Heart Island, Alexandria Bay. The scholarship honors the legacy of the castle’s builder, noted hotelier and philanthropist George C. Boldt.

We are excited to share the Week 2 Scholarship Challenge Leaderboard!

In Jefferson County, LaFargeville Central is still in the lead with 30 percent student participation; In Lewis County, South Lewis Central held onto the lead with 22.54 percent student participation; and in St. Lawrence County, Colton-Pierrepont Central took the lead with 23.08 percent student participation.

All schools have a chance to win Community Foundation grant funding by increasing student participation in the scholarship program to at least 25 percent of the senior class. 

The first round of grants will be determined in a Facebook Live event on Monday, February 23! That means schools have two more weeks to increase student participation to be eligible for the first round of Scholarship Challenge grants.
