Chester F. “Chet” Gray Scholarship Recipients Named

Chet’s Wife, Nancy, Presents Aidan Mills and Ashley Rose with First Awards

     WATERTOWN — Aidan M. Mills and Ashley G. Rose were recently named the first recipients of the Northern New York Community Foundation Chester F. “Chet” Gray Scholarship.

     Aidan is a 2021 Watertown High School graduate who recently began his sophomore year at SUNY Albany where he studies human biology. Aidan plans to continue his education in medical school after he earns a bachelor’s degree. He aspires to become a radiologist. He is the son of Kristyna and James “Jim” Mills, Watertown.

     Ashley is a 2022 LaFargeville High School graduate who will begin her freshman year later this month at Jefferson Community College. Ashley plans to continue her undergraduate studies at SUNY Potsdam where she will study adolescence education, with an emphasis on social studies and history.

Safe Schools Endeavor Seeks Grant Proposals from Jefferson, Lewis Schools for 2022-2023 Funding

Deadline to Submit Proposals for Consideration is Friday, Nov. 4

     WATERTOWN — The Safe Schools Endeavor, in partnership with the Northern New York Community Foundation, is pleased to announce applications for 2022-2023 funding are now available. All schools in Jefferson and Lewis counties are eligible and encouraged to seek grant funding for projects, programs, and initiatives that seek to strengthen school safety and improve student and campus culture.

     School officials and representatives should complete applications no later than Friday, Nov. 4. All applications must be completed through the Community Foundation’s online Grant Lifecycle Manager, which may be accessed at nnycf.org/grants. Grant awards will be determined in December and applicants will be notified with a funding decision in January.

Six Town Community Fund Now Accepting Proposals for 2022 Grant Funding

Up to $7,500 Available for Nonprofit Organizations Serving Southern Jefferson County Residents

     ADAMS — The Six Town Community Fund of the Northern New York Community Foundation will award up to $7,500 in grant funding this year to nonprofit organizations serving the southern Jefferson County region.

     This geographic fund provides support for local programs, projects, and initiatives that enhance the quality of life in the Six Town area. All organizations applying for funding must do so by Friday, Oct. 21, 2022, through the Community Foundation’s online Grant Lifecycle Manager, which may be accessed at nnycf.org/grants. Nonprofit organizations with a 501(c)(3) classification are eligible and invited to apply.

     Eligible organizations must actively serve the towns of Adams, Ellisburg, Henderson, Lorraine, Rodman, and Worth. Requests may focus on assisting with local needs related to health and wellness, families and youth, arts and culture, history, education and more.

First Mary Bastian Memorial Scholar Named

Alexandria Central School Graduate Emmalee White Awarded $1,000 Scholarship 

     CLAYTON — Emmalee R. White was recently named the first recipient of the Mary Bastian Memorial Foundation Scholarship of the Northern New York Community Foundation.

     Emmalee graduated in June from Alexandria Central School. She began her freshman year in August at SUNY Potsdam where she studies early childhood education. She aspires to become an elementary school teacher.

George C. Boldt Scholarship Recipients Honored

Boldt Great-Grandson Continues Support of Jefferson County Students for Two Years of Study

     CLAYTON — Two Jefferson County high school members of the class of 2022 were recently honored as recipients of the Northern New York Community Foundation George C. Boldt Scholarship.

     Elizabeth A. M. Hellings, Indian River High School, and Cody M. Wade, also Indian River High School, were each awarded a two-year $10,000 scholarship during a reception in Clayton with George C. Boldt’s great-grandson, Malcolm Goodridge, and great-great-grandson, Charlie Goodridge. 

     The scholarship honors the legacy of the castle’s builder, noted hotelier and philanthropist George C. Boldt Sr. Mr. Goodridge has led efforts to establish the scholarship with other descendants of Mr. Boldt and dozens of North Country donors who have made gifts to the scholarship fund at the Community Foundation.

We are excited to share the Week 2 Scholarship Challenge Leaderboard!

In Jefferson County, LaFargeville Central is still in the lead with 30 percent student participation; In Lewis County, South Lewis Central held onto the lead with 22.54 percent student participation; and in St. Lawrence County, Colton-Pierrepont Central took the lead with 23.08 percent student participation.

All schools have a chance to win Community Foundation grant funding by increasing student participation in the scholarship program to at least 25 percent of the senior class. 

The first round of grants will be determined in a Facebook Live event on Monday, February 23! That means schools have two more weeks to increase student participation to be eligible for the first round of Scholarship Challenge grants.
