Jefferson Economic Development Fund Supports Local Tourism Projects

$10,000 in Support Aids Henderson Harbor Performing Arts Association, Watertown First

     WATERTOWN — The Jefferson Economic Development Fund of the Northern New York Community Foundation has awarded $10,000 in grant funding to support a pair of community projects aimed at strengthening local tourist destinations.

     A $5,000 award to the Henderson Harbor Performing Arts Association will support a feasibility study to examine the potential for community enhancements in arts and culture, specifically, the development of the Mark Hopkins Inn site for a performing arts venue. The arts association is collaborating with a seasonal resident and longtime professional affiliated with performing arts in Central New York to determine the feasibility of this infrastructure project. The association is also working with the Town of Henderson and the Henderson Business & Community Council to create a performing arts tourist destination that could strengthen economic development in Southern Jefferson County’s Six Town region.

Kenneth V. and Jeannette Remp Sawyer Community Fund Accepting Grant Proposals for 2022 Support

Up to $50,000 in Available for Nonprofits Serving Three Communities

     WATERTOWN — Nonprofit organizations that serve Boonville, Constableville, and Westernville residents should apply by Friday, April 22, for 2022 grant support through the Kenneth V. and Jeannette Remp Sawyer Community Fund at the Northern New York Community Foundation.

     The fund was established in 2018 to support programs, projects and initiatives that broadly impact the quality of life in Boonville, Constableville, and Westernville. The Northern New York Community Foundation administers this permanent, charitable legacy fund that makes grant awards annually. This year, up to $50,000 in grant funding is available.

Dr. D. Susan Badenhausen Legacy Fund Supports Projects at Five St. Lawrence County Nonprofits

$50,000 in Grant Funding Awarded to Strengthen Quality of Life

     WATERTOWN — The Dr. D. Susan Badenhausen Legacy Fund of the Northern New York Community Foundation has awarded $50,000 to five nonprofit organizations in St. Lawrence County to strengthen the quality of life.

     The Dr. D. Susan Badenhausen Legacy Fund was established through a bequest from Dr. Badenhausen, a St. Lawrence County resident and retired physician who passed away in 2018 at age 83. Dr. Badenhausen believed in the strength of community and was a passionate advocate for the people and places in the region she loved and called home. This charitable fund forever continues her legacy of caring for others while thoughtfully perpetuating her interests and passions in responsible ways with a geographic-specific focus on improving the quality of life in St. Lawrence County.

Maxine Quigg Women In Business Fund Supports Entrepreneurs

Applications for 2022 Grant Awards Now Open for Tri-County Women

     WATERTOWN — Applications for grant support from the Maxine Quigg Women in Business Fund of the Northern New York Community Foundation are now being accepted for 2022 awards. 

     Maxine’s sister-in-law, Kimberley Horrill, established the fund at the Community Foundation in July 2021 with a goal to increase local mentorship, volunteerism, civic and community engagement, and investment. Its mission is to perpetuate the life and legacy of Maxine Quigg by supporting and empowering women entrepreneurs in Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence counties to succeed in their pursuits and realize their full potential.

The Community Foundation is accepting applications through next Friday, May 29, to serve on its Youth Philanthropy Council. Applications are welcome from students who attend any of the county’s 13 public and private schools, as well as home-schooled students, provided they live in a Jefferson County school district.
