Community Foundation Announces Class of 2025 George C. Boldt Sr. Scholarship Recipients

Boldt Descendants Continue Educational Support of Jefferson County High School Graduates Pursuing Post-Secondary Studies

     HEART ISLAND — Three Jefferson County high school members of the Class of 2025 are recipients of the Northern New York Community Foundation George C. Boldt Sr. Scholarship.

     Indian River High School graduate Benjamin R. Berry, Thousand Islands High School graduate James A. DiValentino, and Watertown High School graduate Anastaja Smith were each awarded a two-year, $10,000 scholarship during a summer reception at Boldt Castle with George C. Boldt’s great-great-grandson, Charles Boldt “Charlie” Goodridge, and family.

Evergreen STEM Scholarship Recipients Awarded $30,000 to Pursue Post-Secondary Studies

Recognition, Appreciation Dinner in Canton Honors Students, Founding Donors

     WATERTOWN — Ten St. Lawrence County members of the Class of 2026 were recently named as recipients of the Northern New York Community Foundation Evergreen STEM Scholarship.

     Students are awarded the scholarship due to their interest and intent to study in a science, technology, engineering, or mathematics field while in college and apply during their junior year of high school for selection in the summer. Recipients will receive a one-year $3,000 scholarship toward their freshman year of college next fall.

Community Foundation Now Accepting 2026-27 Scholarship Applications from Tri-County Students

Extensive Opportunities for Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence County Students

     WATERTOWN — The Northern New York Community Foundation is now accepting scholarship applications from Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence county students who plan to enroll in any accredited post-secondary educational program in the fall of 2026.

     An online application streamlines the process for most scholarships. Students may access the scholarship portal, create a user account, and begin an online application by clicking on a button found on the home page at nnycf.org. The universal application process asks questions that will determine the scholarships for which students are eligible. There is no application fee to apply for Community Foundation scholarships.

Community Foundation Launches Ninth Annual $10,000 Community Spirit Youth Giving Challenge

Tri-County Seventh, Eighth or Ninth Graders Could Win One of Ten $1,000 Grant Awards to Support a Favorite Local Charity

     WATERTOWN — The Northern New York Community Foundation’s 2025-2026 Community Spirit Youth Giving Challenge is now open to tri-county students. The challenge seeks to engage seventh, eighth, and ninth graders in learning about their communities while they compete for an opportunity to award a $1,000 grant to a local nonprofit organization of their choice.

     This is the ninth year of the program, which is made possible by donors to the Community Foundation’s Friends of the Foundation Community Betterment Annual Fund, major corporate support from Community Bank and a major gift from an individual donor.

The Youth Philanthropy Council of the Northern New York Community Foundation is pleased to announce $25,000 in grant funding for six tri-county nonprofit organizations that will support a diverse range of community programs and initiatives.

Council Chair April Wang, a second-year member and 2026 Watertown High School graduate, said the Council had many worthy requests for grant funding this year.

“Guided by a commitment to thoughtful stewardship and community impact, the Youth Philanthropy Council has carefully selected grant recipients whose work addresses critical needs and fosters meaningful progress,” Ms. Wang said. “I am beyond proud of the diligence and purpose reflected in the Council’s work this year.”

We are pleased to invite the public to experience an evening of inspiring music at the annual Sidney T. Cox Memorial Concert on Friday, July 10, at 7:30 p.m. at the Clayton Opera House, featuring The Syracuse Orchestra.

Presented with support from the Community Foundation in partnership with the Thousand Islands Performing Arts Fund (TIPAF), the annual concert honors the enduring legacy of Sidney T. Cox.

This year’s performance blends beloved classical masterworks with familiar favorites from Broadway and the silver screen. Audiences will enjoy selections from Wicked, The Sound of Music, Jurassic Park, Beauty and the Beast, Kiki’s Delivery Service, and Wicked, alongside works by Aaron Copland, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, Duke Ellington and others.

Together with the Italian-American Civic Association and Immaculate Heart Central School, we are pleased to announce the 2026 recipients of the Clarence B. “Boots” Gaffney Award.

Julianna L. Delaney was selected as the women’s recipient and Jameson M. Lettiere was named as this year’s men’s honoree.

We are honored to help the Gaffney family and the Italian-American Civic Association steward this prestigious legacy award. We look forward to seeing these exceptional student athletes continue their journeys on and off the athletic field as they pursue undergraduate studies this fall.
