Community Foundation LEAD Council Announces Impact Grant Program

$25,000 Available to Support Focus on Child Care, Early Childhood Development

    WATERTOWN — The Northern New York Community Foundation’s LEAD Council has committed to address child care and early childhood development needs across the region as its strategic focus in 2019.

     To help make meaningful investments that effectively address this issue and future needs, the Council also announces the launch of the LEAD Impact Grant Program. Eligible nonprofit organizations whose missions, programs and services target child care and early childhood development are encouraged to apply for funding through this grant opportunity by April 19.

Community Scholars Will be Notified of Future Event     

     WATERTOWN — The Northern New York Community Foundation Jefferson-Can Community Scholars dinner scheduled for Thursday evening, Jan. 31, at the Hilton Garden Inn, Watertown, is canceled due to the ongoing winter storm in Jefferson and Lewis counties.

     Jefferson-Can Community Scholars and their families will be notified of a future event once it is scheduled. The Northern New York Community Foundation wishes all safe travels.

Deadline Nears to Submit Grant Requests to Youth Philanthropy Council for Consideration

$20,000 Available for Nonprofits in Jefferson, Lewis St. Lawrence Counties

     The deadline to submit requests for grant funding from the Northern New York Community Foundation Youth Philanthropy Council is fast approaching.

     The Northern New York Community Foundation Youth Philanthropy Council welcomes proposals from nonprofit organizations of all types for projects, programs or initiatives that positively impact the quality of life in Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence counties. The council will evaluate each request and has up to $20,000 in grant funding to award.

Vici and Steve Diehl Foundation Encourages Future Generations Through New Partnership

Graduate Music, Environmental Studies Scholarship Established

Students pursuing an advanced degree in environmental studies or music have a new scholarship opportunity thanks to a partnership the Northern New York Community Foundation recently formed with the Vici and Steve Diehl Foundation. The scholarship supports tuition costs for students accepted to or enrolled in a graduate degree program in environmental studies or music.

The Vici and Steve Diehl Foundation is a component fund of the Northern New York Community Foundation.

Mr. and Mrs. Diehl are lifelong supporters of environmental concerns. They frequently volunteer for various organizations, including the Indian River Lakes Conservancy, Tug Hill Tomorrow Land Trust, and the Natural Heritage Program, a partnership between the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and the Nature Conservancy. They also share a lifelong passion for music.

Working with donors to benefit the community through grants and scholarships since 1929.

The Youth Philanthropy Council of the Northern New York Community Foundation is pleased to announce $25,000 in grant funding for six tri-county nonprofit organizations that will support a diverse range of community programs and initiatives.

Council Chair April Wang, a second-year member and 2026 Watertown High School graduate, said the Council had many worthy requests for grant funding this year.

“Guided by a commitment to thoughtful stewardship and community impact, the Youth Philanthropy Council has carefully selected grant recipients whose work addresses critical needs and fosters meaningful progress,” Ms. Wang said. “I am beyond proud of the diligence and purpose reflected in the Council’s work this year.”

We are pleased to invite the public to experience an evening of inspiring music at the annual Sidney T. Cox Memorial Concert on Friday, July 10, at 7:30 p.m. at the Clayton Opera House, featuring The Syracuse Orchestra.

Presented with support from the Community Foundation in partnership with the Thousand Islands Performing Arts Fund (TIPAF), the annual concert honors the enduring legacy of Sidney T. Cox.

This year’s performance blends beloved classical masterworks with familiar favorites from Broadway and the silver screen. Audiences will enjoy selections from Wicked, The Sound of Music, Jurassic Park, Beauty and the Beast, Kiki’s Delivery Service, and Wicked, alongside works by Aaron Copland, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, Duke Ellington and others.

Together with the Italian-American Civic Association and Immaculate Heart Central School, we are pleased to announce the 2026 recipients of the Clarence B. “Boots” Gaffney Award.

Julianna L. Delaney was selected as the women’s recipient and Jameson M. Lettiere was named as this year’s men’s honoree.
