Rock Charitable Fund of the Community Foundation Now Accepting Proposals for 2024 Grant Support

At least $100,000 Available to Support Local Military Veterans, St. Lawrence County Churches, Cemeteries, and Places of Historical Significance

     WATERTOWN — The Rock Charitable Fund of the Northern New York Community Foundation welcomes applications for 2024 grant support from qualified charitable organizations, houses of worship, cemeteries, or governmental entities that serve St. Lawrence County residents.

     Grant funding is available to organizations whose missions and efforts align with the fund’s charitable purposes, which are: to benefit or assist veterans of the United States military with their medical or recreational needs who live in St. Lawrence County; for the maintenance and preservation of churches, houses of worship, and cemeteries in St. Lawrence County; and for the preservation and maintenance of places of legitimate historical significance in the county.

     While projects that focus on each charitable purpose will be evaluated for funding, those that aid St. Lawrence County U.S. military veterans will receive priority consideration this year.

Community Foundation’s George R. Davis Fund for Lowville Awards $15,000 in Grant Funding

Legacy Fund Helps Four Lowville-Area Organizations with Community Projects

     LOWVILLE — Four Lowville-area organizations will share $15,000 in grant support from the George R. Davis Fund for Lowville of the Northern New York Community Foundation. This geographic-specific fund serves as a permanent resource for programs, projects, and initiatives that enhance quality of life in the village and town of Lowville.

     The Honorable George R. Davis lived almost his entire life in Lowville and served for 20 years as Lewis County Judge from 1962 to 1983, previously serving as District Attorney. He was active in civic affairs throughout his life with a keen interest in local history, including the history of Lowville Academy where his father was a supervising principal for more than 35 years. Judge Davis passed away in 2010 at the age of 91.

Six North Country Nonprofit Organizations Share $20,000 in Youth Philanthropy Council Grants

Students Field 25 Requests for Funding Support from Diverse Slate of Tri-County Nonprofits

     WATERTOWN — Six North Country nonprofit organizations will share $20,000 in grant support to support a wide range of community programs and projects, thanks to the Youth Philanthropy Council of the Northern New York Community Foundation.

     Each year, the Council reviews requests from tri-county nonprofit organizations to fund projects or initiatives that positively impact the quality of life in Jefferson, Lewis, or St. Lawrence counties. In addition to researching and recommending grants, Council members visit several nonprofit organizations and learn about community investment and leadership, nonprofit sustainability, and grantee stewardship.

$20,000 in Community Foundation Grant Support Helps Lowville Food Pantry with New Walk-In Freezer

New Equipment Expected by End of July Will Increase Capacity to Serve Clients in Need

     LOWVILLE — The Lowville Food Pantry will soon be able to increase its capacity to serve clients thanks in part to $20,000 in Community Foundation grant support to purchase and install a new walk-in freezer at the Trinity Avenue facility.

     As needs among the most vulnerable in the community increase, the Food Pantry has seen a steady uptick in the number of neighbors in need it serves, which often reaches several hundred clients a month.

Retired Lowville Central Schools Superintendent is New Community Foundation Board Chair

     WATERTOWN — Lewis County resident Cheryl R. Steckly was recently named Chair of the Northern New York Community Foundation Board of Directors.

     Mrs. Steckly retired in 2019 as superintendent of Lowville Academy & Central Schools after more than 35 years working in public education.

We are pleased to invite the public to experience an evening of inspiring music at the annual Sidney T. Cox Memorial Concert on Friday, July 10, at 7:30 p.m. at the Clayton Opera House, featuring The Syracuse Orchestra.

Presented with support from the Community Foundation in partnership with the Thousand Islands Performing Arts Fund (TIPAF), the annual concert honors the enduring legacy of Sidney T. Cox.

This year’s performance blends beloved classical masterworks with familiar favorites from Broadway and the silver screen. Audiences will enjoy selections from Wicked, The Sound of Music, Jurassic Park, Beauty and the Beast, Kiki’s Delivery Service, and Wicked, alongside works by Aaron Copland, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, Duke Ellington and others.

Together with the Italian-American Civic Association and Immaculate Heart Central School, we are pleased to announce the 2026 recipients of the Clarence B. “Boots” Gaffney Award.

Julianna L. Delaney was selected as the women’s recipient and Jameson M. Lettiere was named as this year’s men’s honoree.

We are pleased to announce the launch of the Potsdam Community Fund, a new charitable endowed fund established in partnership with donors who share a strong commitment to the Potsdam area.

Thanks to the generosity of founding donors and Potsdam natives David and Ellen Wagner who provided a $250,000 establishing gift, the fund will begin grantmaking this year.

The new Potsdam Community Fund is a permanent philanthropic resource that will support projects, programs, and initiatives that enhance the quality of life in the Potsdam area.
