Rock Charitable Fund Supports Five St. Lawrence County Projects

Nearly $90,000 in Grants Awarded in First Competitive Round

     WATERTOWN — The Rock Charitable Fund of the Northern New York Community Foundation recently awarded nearly $90,000 to five nonprofit organizations in St. Lawrence County to preserve and maintain churches and cemeteries in the region.

     The Roman Catholic Church of Saint Mary, Canton, received a $35,000 grant to support the first phase in its campaign to restore and protect its historic structure and property. Funding will support repairs to the bell tower, statue, trim, and foundation.

     St. John’s Episcopal Church, Massena, received a $23,775 grant to restore exterior brickwork and repair windows and landscaping. Deteriorating brick in areas on the east side of the church will be replaced along with other repairs.

Community Foundation Sets Pair of 2021 Grant Information Sessions

Nonprofit Organizations Serving Tri-County Residents Encouraged to Attend

     WATERTOWN — The Northern New York Community Foundation will host a pair of online information sessions to connect tri-county nonprofits with opportunities for grant funding and introduce organizations to a new online grant application program.

     All nonprofit organizations, including new and seasoned grant applicants, are encouraged to attend. Each session will feature funding and partnership opportunities, best practices, and ample time to ask questions.

Dr. D. Susan Badenhausen Charitable Fund Established

Community Foundation Legacy Will Forever Support St. Lawrence County

     WATERTOWN — The Dr. D. Susan Badenhausen Legacy Fund, a charitable fund of the Northern New York Community Foundation, has been established through a bequest from a St. Lawrence County resident and retired physician who passed away in September 2018 at the age of 83.

     As an enduring tribute to the life and legacy of Dr. Susan Badenhausen and her decades-long devotion to St. Lawrence County, the North Country and its people, this permanent fund will support charitable organizations that strive to improve the quality of life in the county.

Tri-County Nonprofits Invited to Participate in ‘315Day’ of Giving

Deadline to Register as a Campaign Partner is next Friday, Jan. 29

     WATERTOWN — Nonprofit organizations in Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence counties are invited to join #giveNNY for a day of local giving on “315Day,” Monday, March 15.

     The Northern New York Community Foundation has pledged support to the #giveNNY campaign this year, committing $10,000 to match gifts made during the effort. Participating organizations benefit through an equal share of gifts made to the campaign distributed as grants from the Community Foundation. The Foundation is also stewarding all gifts made to the #giveNNY 315Day campaign with opportunities to donate online or through traditional methods.

Youth Philanthropy Council Supports Nonprofit Mission-Based Work

Five North Country Organizations will Share $5,000 in Grants

     WATERTOWN — The Youth Philanthropy Council of the Northern New York Community Foundation recently awarded $5,000 in grants to five North Country nonprofit organizations to support their work and mission in the nonprofit sector.

     The Council and its grant subcommittee selected the five organizations based on each nonprofit’s mission, success in achieving goals, demonstration of fiscal responsibility, sustainability, and formal presentation. Funding for this important work was made possible through the Herring College Memorial Fund of the Community Foundation. Each of the following tri-county organizations were awarded a $1,000 grant to help with a wide range of community programs and projects:

Thanks to donors like YOU, the LEAD Council of the Northern New York Community Foundation made the holiday season shine a little brighter for tri-county seniors!

Through LEAD's Holiday Giving Fund match, nearly $5,500 was raised to help make the holidays special for seniors in Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence counties.

Meals on Wheels at Watertown Urban Mission, the Santa for Seniors program at Lowville Food Pantry, and Meals on Wheels at St. Lawrence County Office for the Aging each received $1,832 in support.

The Watertown-based manufacturer behind Little Trees air fresheners recently established the CAR-FRESHNER Corporation Charitable Fund at the Community Foundation.

Grant applications will be reviewed and awarded quarterly throughout the calendar year. Eligible nonprofit organizations may submit one application per year, with grant awards ranging from a minimum of $5,000 to a maximum of $20,000 per application.

This year, applications must focus on educational initiatives, including but not limited to libraries, child care, and preschool programs, career training, vocational and technical education, and similar projects that enhance educational opportunities within Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence counties.

The deadline for first-quarter 2025 grant applications is Friday, January 24, 2025. Visit bit.ly/grant-portal to access the Community Foundation’s online grant portal.
