North Side Legacy Fund Scholarships Support Four Watertown Students

$10,000 matching grant will help perpetuate work, history of North Side Improvement League

     WATERTOWN — The North Side Legacy Fund of the Northern New York Community Foundation recently presented four members of the Class of 2021 with scholarships totaling $2,000 to support their post-secondary educational goals.

     The North Side Legacy Fund was established in 2019 as a permanent fund of the Northern New York Community Foundation to forever honor and perpetuate the history and heritage of the North Side Improvement League.

Applications for 2021-22 Safe Schools Endeavor grants available

Deadline to Submit Proposals for Funding Consideration is Friday, Nov. 5

     WATERTOWN — The Safe Schools Endeavor, in partnership with the Northern New York Community Foundation, is pleased to announce applications for 2021-2022 funding are now available. All schools in Jefferson and Lewis counties are eligible and encouraged to seek grant funding for projects, programs, and initiatives that seek to strengthen school safety and improve student and campus culture.

    School officials and representatives should complete applications no later than Friday, Nov. 5. All applications must be completed through the Community Foundation’s online Grant Lifecycle Manager, which may be accessed at nnycf.org/grants. Grant awards will be determined in December and applicants will be notified with a funding decision in January.

Nearly $50,000 Available Through Five Unique Community Foundation Funds

Tri-County Nonprofit Organizations Invited to Apply for Support by Friday, Oct. 22     

     WATERTOWN — Nonprofit organizations serving tri-county residents are invited to apply for up to $49,500 in funding through five Community Foundation grant opportunities that are now accepting proposals.

     Eligible 501(c)(3) organizations seeking support for projects and initiatives that positively impact the quality of life across Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence counties should submit proposals by Friday, October 22, for consideration.

     Agencies or organizations that do not have 501 (c)(3) classification are required to partner with an eligible nonprofit, municipality, or local agency as a fiscal sponsor. Agencies seeking funding must confirm partnership with an eligible nonprofit or fiscal sponsor when submitting a proposal.

Community Foundation’s LEAD Advisory Council Offers Support to Tri-County Nonprofits

Up to $20,000 in Funding Available Through LEAD Impact Grant Program

     WATERTOWN — Nonprofit organizations serving the tri-county region have made a meaningful impact across the North Country during the past 18 months. The LEAD Council of the Northern New York Community Foundation is pleased to offer additional funding support to local nonprofits as needs in our communities evolve.

     The LEAD Council is an advisory committee of young professionals empowered to make key investments in Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence counties through community grants and volunteerism. The council wants to learn more about the current work of nonprofits and is offering up to $20,000 in grant support through its LEAD Impact Grant Program.

Lighthouse Fund Announces Support for St. Lawrence River Area Nonprofits

Nearly $2,000 Awarded to Aid Vulnerable Populations in Cape Vincent and Clayton Communities

     WATERTOWN — A pair of St. Lawrence River-area organizations that serve Clayton and Cape Vincent residents will share $1,750 in 2021 grant funding from the Lighthouse Fund of the Northern New York Community Foundation.

     Established in 2014, the Lighthouse Fund is a geographic-specific charitable resource for local nonprofits that provide critical programs and services to underserved and vulnerable populations in the two St. Lawrence River communities. Nonprofit organizations that conduct programs, projects, or initiatives to assist all residents are eligible to apply for support through this fund annually.

Congratulations to the winners of our Youth Philanthropy Council's fourth “Canstruction for Northern New York” competition to help reduce food insecurity across the tri-county region.

Carthage Middle School’s Builders Club & Student Government students are the winners of the “People’s Choice Award” and the “Top Collection Award,” and Watertown High School’s Student Council students took home the “Best Design Award.”

Other teams participating in this year’s competition include: Beaver River Central School’s 9th grade Earth science class with “Pack It Up;” First Presbyterian Church of Watertown, N.Y. Sunday School Class and Youth Group with “Food Steeple;” and South Jefferson High School’s Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) chapter with “Be the Light in Someone’s Storm.”

The five participating teams combined to collect more than 3,300 canned goods and other nonperishable food items or hygiene products that will help restock school-based backpack programs and community food pantries in Jefferson and Lewis counties. Additionally, the winning teams will share $1,500 in grant awards to present to two different local nonprofit organizations that participants selected.
