Foundation Grant Helps North Country Family Health Center Expand Dental Care Services

March 25, 2021 By admin

Project Will Enable Greater Access to Oral Health Care for Jefferson, Lewis Residents

WATERTOWN — A Community Foundation grant will help the North Country Family Health Center expand oral health care services at its main Arsenal Street location, which will provide safe and affordable access for patients while decreasing dependency on hospital and emergency room care across Jefferson and Lewis counties for oral health cases.

The Foundation’s Board of Directors approved a $25,000 award during its last quarterly meeting that will enable the Health Center to move forward with a planned 1,200-square-foot renovation, which will convert current administrative space to create three new dental exam rooms and a lab, which will allow the Health Center to expand oral health care services at 238 Arsenal Street. Recent research indicates a significant spike in emergency room cases because of oral care needs among rural residents of Jefferson and Lewis counties who have limited access to proper oral health care.

Working with donors to benefit the community through grants and scholarships since 1929.

We are pleased to announce that the Rock Charitable Fund of the Northern New York Community Foundation has awarded $174,950 to 17 St. Lawrence County organizations. Grant funding will help preserve local history, improve churches, maintain cemeteries, and support military veterans in the county.

The Rock Charitable Fund was established at the Community Foundation in 2019 through a bequest from St. Lawrence County resident and retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel Marjorie J. Rock, who passed in February 2017 at the age of 96.

“Because of Marjorie’s foresight and remarkable generosity, these projects can move forward when support for this kind of work is often hard to find,” said Kraig Everard, Community Foundation director of philanthropy. “Through the Community Foundation’s stewardship, her vision comes to life, supporting projects that reflect the fabric of St. Lawrence County communities.”
