Foundation’s Rock Charitable Fund Supports Projects at 10 St. Lawrence County Organizations

$115,000 Awarded in Third Competitive Round to Strengthen Quality of Life

     WATERTOWN — The Rock Charitable Fund of the Northern New York Community Foundation has awarded $115,000 to 10 nonprofit organizations in St. Lawrence County to preserve local history, maintain churches and cemeteries in the region, and support a local veteran’s organization.

     The legacy fund was established at the Community Foundation in 2019 through a bequest from St. Lawrence County resident and retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel Marjorie J. Rock, who passed away in February 2017 at age 96. Thanks to her thoughtful generosity and foresight, Ms. Rock’s desire to support St. Lawrence County will be perpetuated for generations to come.

Safe Schools Endeavor Awards Nearly $25,000 to Strengthen Campus Culture in Jefferson, Lewis Counties

Twelve Schools Will Receive Funding to Support Student and Building Safety

     WATERTOWN — The Safe Schools Endeavor, in partnership with the Northern New York Community Foundation, will award nearly $25,000 in grant support to 12 Jefferson and Lewis County schools for the 2022-2023 school year. 

     The Safe Schools Endeavor Steering Committee evaluated more than a dozen grant applications for programs that empower students, parents, and faculty to create the safest schools possible in Jefferson and Lewis counties. This is the fourth year the fund has made grant awards. Since its inception, the Safe Schools Endeavor has awarded nearly $87,000 for nearly four-dozen school projects in Jefferson and Lewis counties.

Youth Philanthropy Council Seeks 2023 Grant Funding Proposals

Up to $20,000 Available to Support Tri-County Nonprofit Organizations

     WATERTOWN — The Northern New York Community Foundation’s Youth Philanthropy Council welcomes grant requests from nonprofit organizations of all types for programs, projects, or initiatives that strengthen the quality of life in Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence counties. The council will evaluate each proposal for up to $20,000 in available grant funding.

     For consideration, completed grant applications must be submitted no later than Friday, Jan. 27, 2023. Council members will notify finalists selected to present proposals. The Council will recommend grants for funding to the Community Foundation’s board of directors. This past round, the Youth Philanthropy Council awarded five grants totaling $20,000 in support to nonprofit organizations that serve tri-county residents.

Community Spirit Youth Giving Challenge Awards $10,000 in Grant Support to 10 Northern New York Nonprofits

Nearly 125 Middle School Students in Three Counties Participate in Sixth Annual Challenge

     WATERTOWN — The Northern New York Community Foundation is pleased to announce $10,000 in Community Spirit Youth Giving Challenge grants to 10 nonprofit organizations that serve Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence counties.

     Now in its sixth year, the Community Spirit Youth Giving Challenge was open to all tri-county middle school students. This year’s program committee reviewed 124 entries from seventh and eighth graders in 11 different school districts who recommended grants to 93 different organizations that serve residents across the three counties.

Thanks to donors like YOU, the LEAD Council of the Northern New York Community Foundation made the holiday season shine a little brighter for tri-county seniors!

Through LEAD's Holiday Giving Fund match, nearly $5,500 was raised to help make the holidays special for seniors in Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence counties.

Meals on Wheels at Watertown Urban Mission, the Santa for Seniors program at Lowville Food Pantry, and Meals on Wheels at St. Lawrence County Office for the Aging each received $1,832 in support.

The Watertown-based manufacturer behind Little Trees air fresheners recently established the CAR-FRESHNER Corporation Charitable Fund at the Community Foundation.

Grant applications will be reviewed and awarded quarterly throughout the calendar year. Eligible nonprofit organizations may submit one application per year, with grant awards ranging from a minimum of $5,000 to a maximum of $20,000 per application.

This year, applications must focus on educational initiatives, including but not limited to libraries, child care, and preschool programs, career training, vocational and technical education, and similar projects that enhance educational opportunities within Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence counties.

The deadline for first-quarter 2025 grant applications is Friday, January 24, 2025. Visit bit.ly/grant-portal to access the Community Foundation’s online grant portal.
